The Seven Last Words From The Cross.

The seven sayings are gathered from the four Canonical Gospels.

1.Father forgive them, they know not what they do.
2.Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
3.Woman, behold thy Son, Son Behold thy mother.
4.My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?.
5.I thirst.
6.It is finished.
7.Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.

Traditionally, these seven sayings are called words of,

1. Forgiveness.
2. Salvation.
3. Relationships.
4. Abandonment.
5. Distress.
6. Triumph.
7. Reunion.

Hi Sky,

Thanks for sharing that. I'm always finding meaning in the seven aspects. Here is my attempt to map them further from my own understanding and how I appreciate what the path of Jesus represents. If you map these back to the quotes that may also be helpful. As with all esoteric sharing some contemplation is required.

............. .............. Agency ............. God-power
............. .............. ______ ............. ________
1. Forgiveness. ...... Choice .............. Power
2. Salvation. .......... Light ................ Wisdom
3. Relationships. .... Family ............... Love
4. Abandonment. ... Communion ...... Purity
5. Distress. ........... Growth ............. Healing
6. Triumph. ........... Surrender ......... Peace
7. Reunion. ........... Transmutation ... Victory

Love your understanding, I enjoy the fact that we can see similarities using different words...

I must say: A wonderful thread for Easter. Many thanks to both of you. Over the years I have often cringed in church with the events of the crucifixion. Attention I drawn, pehaps with good intentions, to the gory details. One of the synonyms that I use for Jesus is to simply say that Jesus is the Gospel. Believing this then I can perceive that his final words are a condensation of what He considered his most relevant teachings.

With this understanding the focus can shift from pain and suffering and can serve as a portal to revelation. I especially appreciated the expansion to an esoteric consideration. Our daily bread is the gospel. Our digestion of it is our interpretation of it. This digestion is what brings life. Unfortunately familiarity can often leaves us content simply with a literal understanding not realizing the depth of that which we are given. Once again, thanks to both of you….:)
