Face changing in mirror? Looks like an alien
 

When I stare at my face in the mirror, in a dimly lit room, my face starts changing after a while. I've done this before many times but as soon as I see my face change I get scared or refocus my eyes and have to start again.

However last night I stuck with it, and it creeped me out lol. I saw my features get bigger on my face and move slightly, like my eyes got bigger but they got more small like wincy eyes, they moved further apart and more on my forehead, then my nose got wider and the tip moved higher up my face, and my mouth looked bigger but thinner and wider across my face.

It looked to me like my face was changing into an alien identity, that's what it always makes me think of. So I felt scared but stuck with it, I sent love as I thought this may be an unloved part of myself, and I started to see a smile on my mouth or this morph faces, and I could see in my eyes like this face was egging me on and longing for me to maintain the connection. I did feel scared and needed to get into bed so I said I would come back to this another time.

I felt really out of myself and had to hold onto the sink and breath deeply for a while to bring myself back into the room properly. What is this? Ive seen online an article that talks about a study of face mirror morphing but it doesn't really have much information about what this actually is, so if anyone knows about this I would greatly appreciate your information, thank you :)

Most likely a case of the ''strange face in the mirror'' illusion that occurs when you stare too much into a mirror.

ok thank you, I was practicing self-acceptance as I always look away from my eyes in the mirror, and then this started happening. It doesn't really say much online about why this happens and what the bigger picture is, just what they have studied :/

I don't think it's anything to worry about though. Especially in a dimly lit room as you say, gazing too long at yourself may distort your basic visual senses and you may see your face start taking all sorts of weird shapes, some including alien-like.
