For me the "likeness" is not that difficult to grasp.
First of all we are product of nothing, then eventually sex like any other animals.
So what makes us special/different from other animals? It's the capacity to read! and understand words. The proof of evolution is in Matthew 13 where it says that we're different in our capacity to understand, otherwise we'd all be clones of Adam who as science proves is part of the evolution, but didn't enter our consciousness until the bible was revealed some 3000 years ago. But before that were other revelations as the Egyptian pharaohs considered themselves to be in touch with the divine. Akhenaten was the first monotheist and much of the ideas in institutionalized Christianity comes from these ideas, i.e. Jesus being something like a pharaoh and body resurrecting like mummy. I'd consider Jesus being something like e true Dalai Lama, who himself is just a living revelation of the principle, something like action art.
In the end it's true that we're unconscious animals in the likeness of 80000 years old Adam/Nosferatu that by revelations of the holy spirit are becoming souls i.e. true (re)incarnations to the likeness of god.
The exodus is our evolution into becoming the promised people...

A sense of separation from God is the only lack you really need to correct.

The separation comes from the ego which is the moon that eclipses the sun. But the ego-problem-awareness we need in order to reach the true awareness. If we had no problems we'd have nothing to think and become aware about. So every soul must go through such a painful consciousness process to become a soul. It means everything is in tune, we just need to understand. ;-)

I am starting to understand the real creative power of love.

The simple explaination is I don't have to try to create life anymore as its all out of my hands now:icon_eek: ....Love creates,,,,structured thought and planning things comes second.
Its not easy to totally switch to this way of life as a lot of stuff will collapse without effort but in the end, all you are left with is what love is creating and rearranging.
It not about following rules to happiness,its about allowing the perceived rules of happiness to shift.
