Falling asleep during hypnosis
Do you think that hypnosis continues to work if you fall asleep while using a hypnosis recording? Obviously I mean one that is not for sleeping. :) I have been wondering, as I have some recordings that I really like and want to use, but I have a limited amount of time that I can use these, and it is usually when I go to bed, or if the baby is napping, and then I usually fall asleep. Sometimes I wake up when the hypnosis is "bringing me back" but sometimes I even sleep through that! What do you think?

I am still wondering about this...

I believe hypnosis is most effective in the Theta state (Deeply relaxed, between waking and sleep, but not actual sleep).
I do believe it would still have some impact while you're sleeping, but if you're asleep you can't really respond to the suggestions. I believe a focused trance would yield better results than actual sleep. Just my thoughts on the matter. |
Makes sense to me...thanks for your reply. I am generally pretty tired, having a baby and a preteen and a teen, and working overnights, so once I get that relaxed I often just fall asleep. This is amazing in itself to me, as I have always struggled with falling asleep.

I was told by my hypnotherapist that it works just the same. I never fell asleep during our sessions though.

Well, hypnosis requires your active participation.

I often do self-hypnosis while lying down in bed. I know that isn't the preferred posture but I find it quite relaxing. I've fallen asleep plenty of times doing this, and usually get a very deep and restful night's sleep.
You'll get plenty of benefits whether you fall asleep or not. Just do what you enjoy and know it's working. |
I always fall asleep during hypnosis but I do feel benefits everytime I have it, hope this helps

Hypnosis does not require your active participation at all and will work if you are asleep. This is known nowadays in operating theatres where doctors and nurses are told to be careful what they say because the patient will respond to any suggestions even while totally asleep under anaesthetic. For example, if the nurse says, 'this poor person has no chance of survival' it will increase the chances that they won't survive because the suggestion has been implanted in the subconscious mind of the patient.
The point is that hypnosis is designed to bypass the conscious mind and affect the subconscious so the more the conscious mind is out of the way the better! For some years I was a professional psychoanalyst specialising in hypnosis. |
Thank you for your input, 5th dimension!
