Faery Trees

I just returned from a trip to Ireland and wanted to post a picture of a Faery Tree. I was told that the Irish are very superstitious of Faery Trees and will tie pieces of cloth on them for good luck. My tour guide told us he had a woman on his bus tour say she tied a piece of cloth on one for her son who was severely sick with cancer and within a short amount of time the cancer completely went away. He also said that if construction crews are building anything, they will build around or redirect their plans so as to not destroy any Faery Trees they come across. Tearing one down is very bad luck. He also told us a story of a man who disregarded the superstitions and tore down a Faery Tree and had a series of bad things happen until he died a short amount of time later. Anyways, I don't know that much about these trees so please share if you have any info!

That's really awesome, Clio, thank you for sharing.

I have read so many stories on faries being spotted out that specific geographic ( Ireland/Scotland) from the small town locals. How cool!

Fascinating! amazing photo, just out of curiosity do you know what variety of tree is used for this purpose?

I think Hawthorn Trees! I googled it: "Crataegus, commonly called hawthorn, thornapple, May-tree, whitethorn, or hawberry, is a large genus of shrubs and trees in the family Rosaceae, native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America."

Oak, Ash, & Hawthorn – legend suggests that “Faery folks are in the Oaks.” They are said to love to dance around this tree. In addition, where there is an oak, ash and thorn(Hawthorn) together, they create a space where it is easy to see the fae.

Blessed be,
Lepus
