Yes. And I could copy all my incoming and outgoing messages onto a text file on my harddrive. But it isn't just about convenience. I am on a number of forums, each dedicated to different topics. As I communicate by post and pm, that forum becomes my depository of messages on that specific topic. The stored pms become my shortlist to other users on the forum and handily connected to what I have been talking with them about. That is, on every forum but this one, where I have to delete most of the pm's and thereby losing most of my history here. I have been here since 2011. 13 years of private communication, and it is basically all long gone.
I understand well how it came to this. Storage space costs money, cpu time costs money, bandwidth costs money. That the crew running this website for all this time on basically a buttons and spare change budget is close to a miracle. It is certainly most honorable dedication. And it is done without ads! That cost savings have been essential is fully understood. The 300 messages limit was, I am willing to bet, a vital and conscious decision at the time and critizising it blindly would be coarse to put it mildly.
However. Beyond the practical issues I feel this goes against the concept of what a forum is, and what it needs to grow. If communication is inconvenient then users will go elsewhere where things are more convenient. How many other spiritually focused forums are there? I want this forum to live and to grow and to me the message limit is the one thing that makes me refrain from getting in touch with people here, because I will have to delete the conversations with them immediately just to continue talking. I have no idea of how many others feel the same way and I won't guess, this is an issue I feel and am sharing.
Again, if this can be resolved with money then I am willing to make a donation. The staff has already informed me that they are looking into it and I am hoping for good news.
