Black Sabbath

Any fans here? It is really odd that I have only just discovered Black Sabbath. They totally play my kind of music but I did not realise it. I guess the fact that they are labelled Heavy Metal put me off without me giving them a try.

But in fact they are not really Heavy Metal at all. They may have started the genre but their music is more a heavy rock/metal/blues blend....they even play the odd folk sounding song. The fact that they started in 1970 means that psychedelia creeps in too.

Love them!

It's a long time ago, what a difference to the music today.
The controllers did a great job on the masses.
I am mostly into classical now.

True. Often acclaimed as the genesis of Heavy Metal, Sabbath (and other bands such as Judas Priest) emerged from the prog rock genre, with clear roots in blues, as more or less as the dark side of 60's psychedelia. From that beginning in England, spawning other Metal groups from prog rock backgrounds such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden, Metal is England's contribution to rock music, really, but it is still an evolution of early black American music which originated in old slave songs.

Thanks for the insight Honza, I've never gotten around to listening to Sabbath either, except for 13, which has some of the heaviest metal I've ever heard. It's faded from memory now, but 'God is Dead' stayed with me, like that one a lot.
Might have to give the album another listen to as it's been a while.

I checked Black Sabbath "13" and realised that this is their comeback album after 35 years!

Apparently fans like it. But for the moment I am chasing their early albums which are classics.
