Power of Prayer in Medicine

Lately I’ve done a lot of reading about studies done on prayer’s effects in medicine. Do you believe that a person’s prayer or distant mental intention (one does not have to belief in God or a God at all) can have documentable positive effects on another person’s physical condition?

On another note, if too much psychological stress can transpire into illnesses such as hypertension or cancer, couldn't the opposite be true? Couldn't one focus healing with their mind via intensely focused positive thoughts and daily meditation on such illnesses to heal oneself or postpone the progression of an illness?

In controlled studies it has been documented that petri dishes with cancer cells in the laboratory have been allowed to do as they may in one group, and in another group, be prayed for in order to see if concentrated positive thoughts would encourage the cancer cells to stop multiplying. The experiment in this study did in fact result in less cancer cells growing in the petri dish that was being prayed for. I simplified the scientific results, however, the powers of the mind are boggling.

Hi Blackraven

Nah one doesn't need to have a belief In god for It to be effective but one must come from the heart and be sincere In what Is expressed .

I see prayer as a "lost" magical art. It has become rote recitations or simple wish-making.

Prayer originally was a process of concentrated visualization, combined with emotional and mental energy, properly grounded to the physical through proper vocalization.

The spoken Word became in essence praying, this was first understood by the ancient Egyptians in the way of Affirmations and made manifest in (Heka) vibrational magic. Efforts were made to align sound with the principles of a cosmic order (natural ordering of the universe) which perhaps could be seen as a LOGOS, the dialog with that part of your Self that has the ability to create any condition you need or desire.

The invocation within a prayer unites our meditative state of consciousness with the power of the Word and our innate force of Will.

God-Like - Exactly, you're so right. It would seem that if one is not sincere that prayer would not go anywhere, like an engine without gas.

Etu Malku - Thank you for you input on the ancient Egyptians. I was able to due some further research on Heka as a result of your post. I always like learning new things. I have a special affinity to Egypt as I painted an Egyptian Queen that hangs in my home. Like what you said about our meditative state of consciousness uniting with the power of the Word and our innate force of Will.

You're right . . . I really didn't mean 'everyone' . . . thank goodness some people adhere to the elder ways.

GOD, and Prayer

You know, "God" means different things to different people.

Some see the term as limiting in nature having to do with their perspective on Religion, and how they see only negative things in the Bible.
This is subjective reasoning, not objective.

Ultimately, Unity exists, and, as St. Paul stated,
"In Him we live and move and have our being."

God is in everything, and everything in God.
Take exception to the male descript? No matter. It is conventional language.

Modern Physics today is telling us about the connectedness of all things, and much research has been accomplished concerning the effects of faoth and
prayer.

Gal 3:28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus

Here there is no man, there is no woman, No self, no person, and no consciousness. Labeling 'male' or 'female' has no essence, But deceives the evil-minded world ~ Buddhist Teaching

"I believe there are two sides to the phenomenon known as death, this side where we live, and the other side where we shall continue to live. Eternity does not start with death. We are in eternity now." - Norman Vincent Peale

If physicists say that this reality consists of energy, vibration, and waveform and only percieved as material and physical after it enters our brain and body's five senses;
then why wouldn't our perspectives, and the way we live, affect everything around us?

Light,Sound,Temperature.
All about Frequency, Vibration, and Resonance. Reality is but a frequency domain; a symphony of waveform.
-----------------------------------------------------------

"If you can believe, all things are possible to they who can believe."

"...and nothing shall be impossible to you."

Jesus

Mopheus - So is it your belief too that prayer (or concentrated thought) can effect someone's physical well-being? Or for that matter, spiritual or emotional well-being just as well?
