Everything Electronica

This is a thread dedicated to everything electronica. I will be using it as a compendium of some of the highlights from my library or other stuff i come across that i like that iselectronic or electronic-ish type music.

Feel free to add your own as well.

Hope you enjoy some of the offerings which i present here for your listening pleasure. If not pleasure, then i will also accept bewilderment, incredulity or indignant outrage as acceptable reactions from listening to the songs in question, or any other impression you may have. :)

Peace. ~

Yes, i'm a big fan of chillout type electronica. Funny you ask because i was planning on posting some chill type stuff in my next post.

WillowMyst 21-11-2012 04:50 PM

I've got some excellent songs to share with you all ^^ Deus, I liked the first link the most. I can't give links yet but I can give song suggestions to find on youtube. My style of music is a bit more trance-like than electronica but its all the same really. ^^

Mai's crystal bridge by Koan. Well, anything by Koan is amazing.

Sparkling bed of Diamonds by Soul Surfer.

I Saw the Earth for the First Time by Kalpataru Tree.

Azymuth by Man With No Name

Those should get you started for a while :D

Awesome! I'm new to Electronic Music, I'm particularly exploring the EBM/Industrial genres. :))

So I'll listen to all of the ones posted here.
Here's a few that I really like:

Assemblage 23 - Lullaby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlzQqToPchM
That's a very sad but comforting one....

Assemblage 23 - Damaged
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kilcsodvF6U
Also comforting and not as depressing as the previous one :)

VNV Nation - Standing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsFlzhzxTlA
Can't think of a good caption but it's good!

When I was younger I thought I'd never even touch Electronic Music, now I'm hooked :)

Deusdrum 22-11-2012 11:03 AM

Thank you Sybilline, WillowMyst & darkness for your suggestions and links, loving them. :) It's amazing how much is still out there of quality electronic music that i've never heard of before.

I'll post a few from a minimal, tech house kind of artist (I think? bad at knowing which genre is which sometimes) named Trentemoller. It's minimalistically funky stuff. Second song is an anthem kind of epic that sounds wonderful in my friends expensive car (well actually truck) stereo, the few times that we've pumped it in his vehicle. Head nod worthy. Last song link is probably his most popular track, melancholy in a soothing sort of way.

Here is a more upbeat, liquid remix version of 'Miss You' by Neus that i quite enjoy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXGJlfCkWoM

Peace. ~

-edit- have to add this track, Banzai Republic collaboration on a remix of the Laidback Luke song, 'Beautiful Day', love this track.

WillowMyst 22-11-2012 11:05 PM

Heads up Deus, you put the same link for "What else is there?" and "Give a little". ^^;

For all you DDR fans, a little nostalgia -
Look to the Sky by SySF (Original, Trance Mix, and True color Mix are all good)

Sweet songs guys keep it up :)

Deusdrum 22-11-2012 11:16 PM

Ah, thanks for pointing that out WillowMyst. Too late to edit, so here is the link for 'Give a Little' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfKwbWHUDPI

Will post some chill out tunes after work probably. Here is a couple to warm up that future post; Dzihan & Kamien's track 'Mojamore'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxBEjMLkKrc and Tosca's 'Wonderful' (Won... der... ful... full) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONQK2mBeBrE

seeker89 28-11-2012 12:48 PM

I got really into Enigma for a while - Maybe not really "Electronica", but I'm sure some of you guys will like this anyway

Also, I'm a fan of these guys, Angels and Agony - Very electronic, with fantastic lyrics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axp3BSOJ0IY

Happy listening

Deusdrum 28-11-2012 08:44 PM

Hi Seeker 89, thanks for contributing. I put an enigma tune in the OP, so yeah, it is strange for me considering them 'electronica' per se as well, but technically they are (I think?) so close enough. Love Enigma, have gotten right into them more just this year myself.

Here's a short set from Nosaj Thing who highlights some tracks from his album, which he mixes together quite nicely i think. Has a hauntingly melodic kind of vibe. Original stuff imo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31AFfyPXUKQ

Phil Kieran - 'Neverending Mountain'; love the stoicism of this song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZHbblq4y3w

A great liquid chill artist that went through a phase with about a year or so ago. Phaeleh - 'Nothing's Wrong' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW--vi9egNs

Ending with something upbeat, two groups with a funky side. First Holy Ghost!, track 'Static on the Wire' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ExzH8erOac

and Crazy P, tracks are 'In & Out' and 'Open For Service'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lQxYUGB1Bw (480p waaay better quality)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1hul1OFK30

Love both these groups. Crazy P I've played to death on the ipod headphones during work this summer.

WillowMyst 30-11-2012 07:56 PM

Got some interesting tracks to try.

Phaeleh - Should be True
watch?v=J6SGSzaSoVo

Submerse - Always like this
watch?v=C20peqPBbsg

Hooverphonic - Inhaler
watch?v=lphG4o2tOn0

DJ Shadow - Midnight in a Perfect World
watch?v=nmzHRGoKca0

These are all probably more similar to trip-hop.

Deusdrum 03-12-2012 04:23 AM

Hey WillowMyst, that's all good even trip hop to me is electronic music. I would call Phaeleh more of a chillout/liquid style of artist than trip hop anyways. Love his stuff though either way.

Holy CARP SPAWN, Deus, you have some tight musical tastes! Lovin' this Gelka. I'm going to need to comb through this thread more in a languid daze later.

Are you familiar with Tipper, Jega, Digitonal, Jon Hopkins, Spoonbill, Rumpistol, Plaid and Autechre?

Deusdrum 23-01-2013 10:58 PM

Hey thank you Envolucris. :)

I have some Jon Hopkins and have heard of Autechre, Tipper and Spoonbill though can't remember what they might sound like. Autechre I have an idea, kinda minimal glitch sounding, not that i know genres all that well.

I will check all these out though, thanks for sharing. Love hearing new artists.

Envolucris 23-01-2013 11:18 PM

No problem. Those are all links to my top picks by each, so hopefully they'll catch your ear.

Deusdrum 24-01-2013 10:00 AM

Envolucris - Really like that Rumpistol track, and the Jega one too, reminds me a bit of Ulrich Schnauss. The Plaid one was quite good also, very dreamy yet good groove to it. Now i remember what i'd classify Autechre as, which should have been obvious; tech, isn't it? Tipper is techy as well. Like all those tracks basically. Not a huge dubstep fan usually, but Spoonbill track was done proper.

Was planning on doing a post of breaks, so here they are. Pretty mainstream selections far as breakbeat goes, but bangers all the same imo.

Sidewinder - Insatia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztProrIFXUs

Something different from the mainstream niche of electronica, this is a piece of synthesizer music from 1996, written on the enchanting Ensoniq SQ-2. A sweet tune of pop / dance influence, with a romantic touch to its melodies, also featuring subtle appearences of piano and pan flute.

Deusdrum 19-04-2013 10:44 AM

I will check out that track fire out after posting here. Never heard of Sidewinder i don't think.

Here is a few tracks from one of my newer artist/album discoveries, Secede.

Very enchanting smooth, dreamy kind of sound, has a depth to it as well. One of those albums that you can play front to back as a complete piece, and be drawn in and take the ride the whole way.

Interestingly, you might actually have, if you're a fan of The Crystal Method or The Prodigy. He's an underground artist from the demoscene who later moved on to recording from his synthesizer. Either way, he had a track go viral on the internet back in the days of P2P, after being mislabeled as a collaboration between the two aforementioned artists, with the title Sidewinder.

The track in question is a breakbeat anthem titled Crystal Prodigy:

Hmm, never knew that. Good bit of music history. Definitely a fan of The Prodigy and Crystal Method also to a lesser extent.

This one's gotten a lot of play on my computer lately.

A couple bands that blur the lines between rock & electronic music that i happen to enjoy.

Little Dragon; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDVrTYW2l84 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmP2ULBJGYQ

Phantogram; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0ul-BghOAs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b78Nqys0Hfc

muileag 12-06-2014 01:03 PM

Definitely enjoyed Phantogram 100% :D

Relatable lyrics & visual symbolism...and just enough trippiness in the beat. I discovered quite a long time ago that you don't need drugs to transport you when you have the right kind of music

Deusdrum 12-06-2014 01:34 PM

So true muileag. No love for Little Dragon? Both have beautiful lead singers, so added bonus for video viewing. For me at least, haha ;)

Considering buying the new Phantogram in fact, first song is off their new album.

muileag 12-06-2014 04:07 PM

I had actually heard Little Dragon before...but Phantogram was totally new, and I really liked the two videos you posted.

Deusdrum 12-06-2014 08:54 PM

I see, well def. glad you like them. The second song was an obsession of mine that got played to death at the time when I first heard it. The first song became version 2.0 in that respect, wasn't aware until recently they had another album out. Definitely have a nice touch of trippy, as you say.

Music makes me high, sometimes. Need to stop rewinding here before I wear this song out too soon.
