Shamanism

I know there are varying perspectives on this question but I would love to hear some of them. How does one know they are meant to be a shaman? Can anyone who develops the desire to be a shaman become one?

Thanks!

I'm afraid not, ladylight.

How does one know? As I understand it, it is not an easy calling and it is not something one should wish for. I know some people believe it is hereditary, others believe if one is called, they clearly know it and don't need to ask, and still others believe anyone with a desire is called. It's an interesting spectrum.....

As people we have the basic human right to belief anything we want, but we cannot expect the spirits to act accordingly. We cannot expect the spirits to get with our program.

When the spirits call, it is on their own terms, and when they call someone, that individual knows he or she has been called. It's not like someone can send a voice mail to spirits and hope they call back.

But if anyone desires to be a shaman or medicine person, they cannot be sure that such an encounter or call will come to be.

It's not the same as someone wanting to be a medical doctor, president, or famous movie star, however one can believe anything he or she wants, but don't expect the spirits to comply.

Kind of like expecting wild songbirds to join in with whatever tune one happens to be whistling. Maybe in Disney Movies.

I believe in the Quechua tribe in the Andes say one way to become a shaman is to be struck by lightning and to live through it. In this way your ego is destroyed forever, although you may have some physical disabilities. With the ego truly gone, the psychic powers develop.

Just one way.

In Shinto (Japanese shamanism) and Muism (Korean Shamanism) the spirits descend to the celebrant and not the other way around. If you feel a calling and want to be a shaman there are ways to induce the experience by yourself.

As a child I was deeply enamoured with the paranormal and adored watching Unsolved Mysteries, X Files, anything like this.. the 90s was a special time when people were free to ask lots of questions and when mysteries were still around every corner.

Now we are connected via the internet and life has less mysteries. but I digress

I try to teach how to solitarily initiate here
It is expected that a kundalini awakening may trigger psychosis

developing psychic powers is often romanticized but obviously if this is real than it is something very hard to deal with

Shamanism means being sick
in a lot of ways

it means you have crossed the threshold into the next life in a manner of speaking and lost part of your soul

I always heard stories of shamans, they help people, that either losted their souls, or a animal went into them, like my granaunty told me once, her and her husband, they took my mom's aunty with them swimming and a baby snake was swimming around them, it went into my mom's aunty soul, she was a little kid yet than, and they had to pay a shaman to help her, he said the baby snake liked the little girl and wanted to stay with her, so he went into her, but he took the snake out and my mom's aunty got well again, hope this made sum sense
