What are demons?
 

According to religion they were once angels or non-human entities but to me it makes no sense that angels would rebel against God while they are aware that they don't stand a chance against God at all. And what would cause such a high being of great intelligence who stands in close proximity to God to go evil? In another (more likable) theory, demons were once ordinary human spirits that over time gathered a lot of power and transformed into truly monstrous beings. But what is the actual truth and where do they come from?

Slayer - I know what you mean about the 'fallen angel' theory. It doesn't make perfect sense for the reasons that you listed. I tend to think demons are spirits that previously inhabited human lives that did horrible things such as someone like Hitler. However misguided someone like him might have been, at the core it would seem that there was pure evil. Other than that, I can't say for certain that I have a clear definition of a demon. Maybe other members that have medium abilities could speak to this question. I do know that just as there is pure evil in this world and beyond there is also pure goodness. Sometimes it's hard to acknowledge that with all the bad things happening in the world, but there are good people in every nook and cranny of the world.

Fallen Angels

I believe that demons are the creations of your fears and beliefs.

I never really had an exact idea of what a demon was or used to be. A few years ago I bought a book called 'The Encyclopedia of Spirits' by Judika Illes and I absolutely love it. It talks about what various religions view demons as and the one I identify with is,

"In most metaphysical circles, demons tend to be low-level spirits of malicious intent; spirits who tend to be hostile to people or at least enjoy causing trouble. Many spirits associated with causing disease are classified as demons."

It goes on with some stories, how to keep them at bay, symptoms if one is attached...its a really good book and over a thousand pages of spirit info. The good and malevolent.

Demonic possession may actually be parts of the mind acting out. The normal brain has parts with their own feelings, thoughts and emotions.. somewhat like multiple personalities but not so clearly divided as with those with DID. As someone once put it "You have angels and demons in you."

There are so many different kinds of spirit entities in existence.

We who are on Earth as humans, or some of our fur friends and brothers; our pets are a certain type of Souls. We are part of a great collective. Part of each other including pets and some animal companions.

But there are spiritual beings in other dimensions and worlds of another ilk. Some are not all good. There are those who are called "demons", demonic spirits. They are fallen beings part of an entire other group of a very lower frequency. They can't incarnate and they are on a very low plane.

Sometimes they get into our reality through doorways. They just want to destroy us and our species. Demonic spirts are only one type of dark entity. They were lead by an higher angel some call Lucifer or Satan. He duped them because he learned all the Laws in existence and knew how to twist them..

I hate to say it but I've seen worse negative human entities than even demonic ones. The demons are just older, more advanced and powerful. That's only because they've spent most of their time in the Spiritual realm. But there are plenty of human entities who've fallen to a type of demonic state on the Other Side and become a demon in their own right. There are many different dark and light entities. It is an infinite Universe of many ups and downs and inbetweens.

From what I understand, evil spirits, or demons, are souls that were once human & were bad in life. They become so bad that they appear to be beyond redemption, & want only to cause suffering to humans.

Much like your second theory.

Demons are Satan's followers. Demons and Satan were once angels. Satan wanted to be more powerful than God. He kicked him out of heaven and the angels that followed Satan are the demons.
I dont agree with some of these beliefs i see on this thread. DEMONS ARE REAL. They are not just based on fear. Demons will cause people to have fear, but these are horrible beings. I have seen them before. They want to cause destruction and death and every other negative thing you can think of.

Hello,
I've always been curious about what a Demon actually was. I've heard about them being fallen angels throughout the Abrahamic religions. However, I have also read and been told by others that "Demon(s)" is/are:
A mass of Negative Energy- residual left over or negative thoughts put out by someone else that have built up over time.
Bad Human Spirits- You have good and bad people in the world of the living makes sense you can have the same in the sprit world.
In-Human -Which this one really gets me. What is an inhuman energy? Where does it come from? If its not human what is it exactly? You hear stories of In-Human energies being intellegent enough to communicate with Humans through evp, etc. If its not human how can it communicate with us in a language we understand and how can it understand us and our emotions. _So that is confusing to me._
So all in all i have no real idea what a DEMON is.
