NEWS: Approximately 11 million people so far have signed petiitions to get the Yulin dog-eating festival (scheduled for the summer solstice 22 June) stopped. This is a news report Tuesday 14 June from the Independent:

While this is good news, there is also some negativity, as the Chinese embassy rejected a petition presented to them by protesters in Britain.

You eat cows right? Pigs? Chickens?

Why?

Is it because you feel nothing for them? Because you can not pet them and turn them into companions? Because they do not lick your faces and cuddle at your feet?

Yet piglets, an animal said to be as intelligent as a five year old child, are roasted alive underneath heat lamps in many slaughter houses because they can't regulate their body heat. Chickens are debeaked alive and boiled in hot water while alive due to the fact that such makes removing their feathers easier. Cattle are oftentimes not properly stunned and still kicking & thrashing as their throats are slit and they left to bleed to death.


You only disagree with it because dogs are pets and thus worth saving. Cattle, chicken, pigs, etc., well maybe it is true and their only purpose in life is to live & die for the knife. But even so there are people who view these animals as pets too. Have closer affinity for them than people have companionship with dogs. So how exactly can such beasts have such meaningless lives?


Besides dog meat markets have existed throughout Europe for years. Poland & Switzerland have some rather well known dog meat markets, sold by whites mind you; you just have to use the right terms and they'll be putting away the slap of beef and showing you a dog's leg. You could buy dog meat in Canada and the US during the Depression and well as stomach knotting as it'll sound apparently, I have heard, you still can in some areas.

Actually you could get dog meat in a number of European markets during the War, including England. Oh yes you like "hot dogs" right, well the concept comes from Germany and guess what they were dicing up too alongside the pork until about the mid 1980s.



You point a finger without understanding the entirety. Yet many who protest such behavior will likely never raise anything but a passing fist or a fleeting thought towards the treatment of cattle, pigs, or chickens.

There is so many people in China that literally dog meat is the only way some of them can ever eat meat. Not much different than how, if your forefathers were European, they survived the Wars or if just Americans they survived the Depression.

No, Glow Worm, I don't eat or wear animals or what they produce for their young either (i.e.milk).
Yes people may have been forced to eat dogs, cats, and even humans on occasion. The survivors of the Andes plane crash had to eat (already dead) humans' bodies if they wanted to live. There have been other instances.

But if we stop our ethical/philosophical/anthropological arguments for one second and think even for a moment about being boiled or skinned alive, and what torture that involves...well it's beyond our comprehension really.
It's not the eating of the meat of these beings exactly, but the deliberate sadistic torture, done for reasons of 'virility and health' for humans -and quite erroneous, in fact. I might be wrong here, but how can consuming a horrendously tortured creature -tortured in ways I will not describe fully -ever be a good thing for the well-being of humankind?

But my purpose in posting these petition links was not to engender argument or debate, but to offer the opportunity for those who can support and hopefully help these dogs, to sign and add their voice to the millions protesting about this gross cruelty. These Souls chose to come into the world in order to bring about massive changes in Human consciousness and evolution, and their cries should not be ignored for the sake of our arguments.

Tobi, I signed those petitions which I have not previously signed. Thank you for putting all those links on this forum.

You are rightly drawing attention to an important issue. The manner in which these dogs are killed is horrific (often boiled alive). We all need to speak up via petitions. This festival can be stopped, if public opinion is strong enough. A lot of Chinese people have also been protesting about this cruel festival. As if the boiling alive wasn't bad enough, a lot of pet dogs have been stolen in the area prior to the festival. So there are grieving pet owners out there, not just the poor dogs suffering an unimaginably painful passing.

GlowWorm, kindly note that I, like Tobi, do not eat any meat of any form. Neither does my friend, the Noble Knight. So your points about eating other animals who have been cruelly killed do not apply to us. The cruel killings of other animals which you mention are also horrendous. Any extremely painful killing of animals is a terrible thing. Or are you saying that it is OK to kill animals for food in ways which cause them extreme pain? Even when people are starving and are meat eaters, it is still possible to kill quickly, with the minimum of pain possible. Boiling dogs alive is certainly not that!

I've signed all of them Tobi, I also signed on the Animal Forum that we're both on. As you already know, I'm a vegetarian.

I was sickened to see that it was held. I did not even open the story to read. It just broke my heart.
