Can You Lie Or Fabricate Under Hypnosis?
Ive been reading the excellent M.Newton books on Lives Between Lives; fascinating books, the research seems genuine and well intentioned and the depictions of the afterlife are a LOT more believable than others. ie (Eben alexander)
Question is can you lie or invent/fabricate under hypnosis? How do we know for sure that the subjects are acting with honesty?? Im hoping someone on here might know a bit on this? |
you can say whatever your higher self is guided to say. It would not be lying because it isn't done at the conscious level.

Another aspect relevant to your question is suggestibility. One is way more suggestible when under hypnosis. In fact that is the very basis of many hypnotic induction techniques. As per false memories, the hypnotist can intentionally or unawarely make suggestions or lead the conversation. The hypnotized person can integrate these into their memory and believes them to be part of those memories. Much like UFO stories, they can't all be taken as factual even if the people involved genuinely believe them to be true and are in no way trying to mislead or trick any one. If revelation under hypnosis was so reliable, it would be accepted as evidence in court. It's not. |
This isn't as well of a researched answer as the others, but I'm tempted to say yes, you probably could lie under hypnosis. I sleep talk regularly, and so I've been spoken to in my sleep before and been able to lie very well. I don't see why hypnosis would be so different.

So really Newton's work has quite shakey foundations then.

Yes, you can lie under hypnosis. Hypnosis is simply a very relaxed mental state, during which you can be quite susceptible to suggestion.
But no one actually loses the ability to NOT do what a hypnotist suggests. No one is actually forced to squawk like a chicken and flap their arms, no matter what the stage performances would have one believe. When a hypnotized person does odd things while "under" it is because they are relaxed and feel like complying. If one can choose to comply or not, it seems reasonable that one can choose to tell the truth or not. Hypnosis isn't a truth serum. |
I have undergone hypnosis many times and I've even done a Life Between Lives session as well as several Past Life Regressions. I can tell you for certain that the subjects weren't "lying" per se in the Michael Newton books. Under hypnosis you just say what you are feeling and experiencing. I like to think of hypnosis as deep, guided meditation.
Whether or not what I experienced is actually "true" or not isn't relevant to me. What is relevant is what I took away from the session! I learned so many lessons and found a purpose for this life that has just made me so happy and content with the world and others. I see loving humor in everyone and everything and whether that was my brain coming up with it all or my soul learning this from the spirit world I won't know for certain in this life, and I realize now, it doesn't really matter! If you have any desire to experience a Past Life Regression I highly recommend you find a good hypnotist and just do it! Go with an open mind and know you have the rest of your life to analyze whether what you experience is "real" or not. |
I do think its possible your subconscious mind would lie under hypnosis, I see no reason why not.
But, generally in the psyche it is the conscious mind (the ego) which creates the lies and rationalizations. So, when you remove those constructs you get much more geniune answers. |
Of Course you can speak lie during the hypnosis even you are able to speak creative lies when you are in trance .
