Classical / Orchestral / Lyricless Music anyone ?
I wanted to start a thread that invited people to contribute some of their very favourite and inspiring Lyricless Music.
Music without words provides for a greater freedom to explore the imaginary landscape created by the sound, free from the direction suggested by words. It seems only fitting that as I have begun this thread, i should give you an idea of the sort of thing i am referring to. This is the dreamy and exquisite Aquarium from Le Carnaval des Animaux' (The Carnival of the Animals) a musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saƫns. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsD0F...eature=related or the more modern and perhaps more powerful E.S. Posthumous with Arise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWgUUc-oNE So the only criteria for this thread is that it has to be lyricless. I look forward very much to listening to your suggestions. |
This is one of my favourites Neville ....... hope you enjoy it.
Gustav Holst - The Planets Suite (Jupiter, The Bringer Of Jollity) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG_xk...eature=related |
Thanks Soul Searching,
The Planets were my initiation to Classical Music at school when the music Teacher insisted we listened to Mars the Bringer of War. Jupiter is very optimistic piece , For the more meditative experience in the Planets suite I opt for Neptune the Mystic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSJub1A1aIk&feature=related  |
The Beatles, throughout their long and storied career, performed precisely ONE instrumental (otherwise known as 'lyricless') song, by the name of 'Flying', from their Magical Mystery Tour album.
They did have some instrumentals on Yellow Submarine, but these were strictly produced as orchestral fill for certain scenes, and were not performed by the band itself. I'm at work, so I can't link to it - but do look it up - I love it! :D |
I found it Humm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFrpclWP3eQ Speaking of Major groups going against type, some folk might remember a Rock Group called Black Sabbath who in their album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath completely and pleasantly surprised me with the third track from the album entitled Fluff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtoC3t662j8&feature=related While I am on the subject of Major groups and lyricless music, I feel it would be terribly remiss of me not to mention Pink Floyds Atom Heart Mother which at just under 24 Minutes long may be considered too long, but I think rewarding anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyRJz...eature=related |
