Living as a duality
In mind, we live in a duality and that is what produces seeker and master (and all other dualities). The master still lives in a duality, which I believe, is suggestible in the Zen proverb … "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."
The master and seeker are same same but different but still same. A master that forgets or omits this…. well……they are being dominated by the seeker ‘side’ of themselves (in mind)..…if only for a split second. As a side effect of the duality paradigm, there are at least two or more major viewpoints the mind produces. I submit an example using this OP. 1) OP viewed as a variation of garbage. 2) OP viewed as a variation of value. 3) OP viewed as the "mind doing its 'thang'" :icon_rr: That is expected in a public forum where viewpoints are fostered. I suggest, only suggest, we do not underestimate the power of our minds. Hear what I am saying if not more so, what I am not saying. With the warmest of regards to all. |
The duality that isn't there is the difference between the actual experience and the mind's noticing that experience.
I agree with you on the power of the mind. In that sense point of view 3 seems to come closest as I see the mind relating to concepts and discussions on forums. The master in the zen proverb doesn't live in duality any more. When he is chopping wood and carrying water. He is doing just that. seeing the interplay of activity of the bodymind as it is. Instead of projecting a story unto it. With all the mindpower abound all I can say is.... Don't believe everything your mind tells you. WIth Love Eelco |

Partially agree. Actually never lived there, but in a sense has lived, is living, and will always live there. Quote:
No projecting a story unto it, it is the story. |
So do you believe there is an escape from duality?
I like to think so. Taking the imaginary Zen master we talk about above. I believe he or she has gone beyond the dichotomy of identifying a self with the action of carrying wood and chopping water. So much so that there is no story. There is action, driven by causes until causality ceases. With Love Eelco |

 There is no point. In the greater scheme of things it's all about expansion. |

Has your mind ever ping ponged eventually creating a 'light bulb' moment from that energy manifested? Duality embodies itself as both friend and foe, trapper and re-leaser. Duality is like an overlay but instead of overlaying on the surface of something else, it overlay itself in an in-folding. It is both it's surface and it's depth. I surmise that is the expansion Julian mentioned. Duality is what looks for a point eventually only to find itself and concludes it is the point. I think duality being a natural trickster tricks even itself in to believing it found THE point as THE point. Getting back to expansion. Least we forget, duality is both expansion and contraction. Expansion as the seeker seeks and as a perceived contraction or master as one. The mind is both the path and the destination of itself. Whenever trying to grasp something 'other' I ask myself, is this of the mind or that which is indescribable somehow tickling the mind like a spark or ember? Remember member ember There is no right or wrong being as anything, everything, or nothing. However, right and wrong will differ in this regard. LOL We are always indescribably home all the while taking the describable on a long way home. These lyric from SuperTramp are fun to muse on: Quote:
"You never see what you want to see" probably because 'it' is not of mind. Mind which sees, feels and aware of the same as itself. Is there 'something' of greater value and capacity for returning truth then duality? Not to duality there isn't and there lies the rub, spark or ember whatever name one may like to call 'it'. |
No spark, no ember. no point. No duality.
I haven't had a light bulb because of a ping-ponging mind moment. Usually I realize (have light-bulb) moments by pondering, and silence. With Love Eelco |
There is one question that is the root of all questions.
Why duality? The question can only be broached by duality for duality. Duality answering for itself would be like a question also being the answer. The interrogated being charged with interrogating itself. The answer? You got me there. It's a mystery, magic, mirror what have you. Conscious reality a mystery theater. |
In my mind duality is only the apperance of things.
Not that i conclude there is an I or Atman or One sentient All at the source though. With Love Eelco |
