Is self-hypnosis as effective as seeing a practitioner?

I had a series of hypnotherapy sessions which I found extremely beneficial but quite pricey.

I was just wondering if anyone has found self-hypnosis as beneficial as seeing a hypnotherapist.

If so, how did you go about self hypnosis, did you buy a book, record yourself speaking etc?

Thanks, Sophie

i have used self hypnosis i havent used a practicioner so i cant compare i did buy a book its basically relaxing until you are in a different state of mind where you can suggest things to your subconscious i did find it very useful for what i intended it for

For specific or serious problems I would consult a specialist first. Just for general, such as relaxation, destressing, visualisation, I have used self-hypnosis and have used both books and pre-recorded CDs...
Hope this helps, good luck!

Hello

I have done it both ways.

From the Preformance point of view one's can not get me under I totally resist that.

I had a medical one for dealing with what is now known as Post Tramatic Stress. It was a good experiece as it took me fully back into me NDE event for me to full on re live it. To understand it and move forward from it.

Me mate used it in his recovery from substance abuse. To agan open to issues that triggered certain feelings and fears. Too I was given the chance once to ask him a question I so needed to know.

It has its use. Like all things used with due care and attentions if self done and well looked into if done by someone. The brain is a complex part of one's being not to be messed with.

NOW I be off to Flap and Cluck like a Chicken

Self-hypnosis method?

Would anyone share a self-hypnosis method which has worked with you? My purpose is for a better rest, relaxation and self-sugestion. Not exactly overcoming some kind of trauma or past lives experience.

i count backward from onehundred slowly with my eyes closed if my mind wonders i start from 100 again i tell myself before i start i will be in a trance by the time i count 1 i test that i am in a trance by asking myself if i can move my legs it will feel alot heavier but i can move them sometimes i cant move them at all but that is the state you need to be in and you can then suggest to your subconsciousness what you want to happen
hope this helps some people record there own voice telling yourself what you want to happen or even better is the cds or tapes a much safer option because you know they wont make you do something you didnt mean to be doing

My hynotherapist made me a CD and the first part is just relaxation, could I just listen to the first part so I am totally relaxed then suggest things to myself? Would this count as self hypnosis?

I wonder if anyone could share a hypnosis method in a .mp3 or .wmv format?

i guess it would work as long as you can stop the cd at a certain point maybe you can edit it somehow?

you can get results on your own but it will likely take much longer and a bit of trial and error. a good hynotherapist will know the best suggestions/affirmations for YOU and how to tailor it to your exact needs.
I usually suggest people hire pro's as much as possible at least once or 2x to save us time and trial and error. Make sure you truly can't see a pro, if you can, do so. If you need to really budget and give it your best shot. Like I said, in the end, you can pull it off but it often takes a bit longer.
