We are working on technical issues--if you can help, please read

I am so sorry we are experiencing issues with the forum. My tech help is out of town right now, and I am in the middle of a crazy rush for my business, but I am hoping to get some help as soon as I can.

My tech help is the person who knows about the nuts and bolts of hosting/servers, etc. I need his expertise---I sent him an email and will hopefully be hearing from him soon.

In the meantime, please forgive the inconveniences of the issues the site is experiencing.

I am swamped with my business right now, but if anyone can offer help, please contact kindspirit through the forums. I believe he is under that name on here. He is the one who has helped me with problems with SF throughout these past 5 years.

I can't give out his private email, so if there are any issues contacting him through here, contact me and I will try to respond as soon as I can.

I am so sorry.

Such is forum life.. I adnit to being kinda peeved after making a detailed and carefully worded post and was editing it.. when it vaporised.. i tried everything to get it back, it must have entered a black hole:icon_frown:

Robinski78 06-01-2015 12:54 PM

Trying to be helpful...

Star Wolf... Not sure if you're aware of the following...

When I'm writing a long or intricate post, I do so in a Google cloud document, then copy and paste it into the forum message pad...
That way, if it suddenly disappears, there is a means of recovery at hand...

All you need to access the facility, is a Google mail account - if you've not already got one...

It's a good document set up system, which I wouldn't want to be without...

Hope you're not offended by the suggestion...

Robbie....

Or even a plain old Word/Open office or even trusty old 'Notepad' document for the purposes of cut and past, Ive lost one too many epic replies off of the ipad so make it a habit to do that anyway now...

I want to say first that this is an excellent forum. I am having trouble with slow posting and at times pages loading slow. I have gotten one message, " could not connect to database".

I do not mean to intrude here, but I have had some experience with these issues. I have set up and maintain a half a dozen SMF forums. SMF is different and inferior to vBulletin, but the problems you are having is the same we have experienced in the past.
I contacted my host and increased the number of connections allowed. I cost a couple of bucks more per month, but it was worth it.
Another thing that caused posting problems in the past that resemble what you are experiencing was anti spam packages such as Askimet.
Like I said, I do not mean to meddle, but I like your forum and felt that you may benefit from our experiences.
Best regards,
Tim

I've only found the forum running slowly on odd occasions, which hasn't troubled me to any degree... I surmise that is caused by the same, or a similar thing...

I suppose it depends in some respects, on what funding is available to the company running the forum, whether or not, anything could be upgraded, to avoid such issues... However, I don't think members can really complain, when a service such as we get here, is completely free of charge...

Personally, I'm content to ease off a bit now and again, to allow things to settle down, sooner than having to start chipping in with donations to off-set running costs, or even worse: getting hung up on advertising...

I'm sure the admin want to provide a good service, and it's beneficial when members inform them of issues, so it's ludicrous to suggest members can't complain (give feedback) because the service is free, and we can't just say, well the service is free so who cares if it has problems.

Hello Members

We are aware of the situations the site is having and are working on them.

We are blessed to have a site still as the founder is not with us anymore.......so count those blessings.

I thought this might be of help, don't know what it means but I've come across it a couple of times. I was just trying to go back 'home'.

I am grateful for these forums.

I guess I just get a little annoyed cause I know there are many on here who'd be happy to throw some money the admins' way to get the forums upgraded and/or fixed properly. Me being one of them.

Oh well, you do what you can do.

annonafox 17-01-2015 06:05 PM

Thank you for all this feedback. Some major life issues have cropped up since I last posted, and I am so sorry for the delay. My tech person is also experiencing a crisis right now, so things are a little slow moving on this end.

From what I understand, most of the issues faced with SF can be resolved if we can get a dedicated server. The cost is beyond my means, unfortunately, so I have kept things as they are and had my tech help work on adjusting some things in the past to help with overload issues. It has been marginally successful, but we are obviously still encountering issues.

As far as members donating to get SF onto a dedicated server, I am not sure how we would do that. It is a monthly charge, so the donations coming in would have to cover at least half of it to keep it going. From what I recall, a dedicated server is $100/month. I am not positive about that, but I can find out from the hosting company.

If anyone has suggestions about a donation situation where we could make this happen, let me know. I am sorry it takes me a long time to respond at times---I run my own business so things are incredibly busy, and I regret not having a lot of spare time to tackle some of the forum issues. And because I have limited technical knowledge, I feel like I am kind of stumbling around in the dark with these matters.

But I will do what I can to help make this better. In the meantime, if things can be somewhat ok with the setup we have, that at least is something. I know things need to be improved, though, and I will work on making that happen in any way possible.

annonafox 17-01-2015 06:10 PM

I just got updated information that inspirit did make some more adjustments on the servers and hopefully that has helped a little?

Thank you all for bearing with us through the twists and turns....

xo

Shinsoo 17-01-2015 10:49 PM

I haven't been nailed by any errors at all yet today, that's very good!

I'm not sure how a donation system would work either tbh, but I know I'd contribute financially monthly in some way if it would be needed. :3

Friend 13-02-2015 06:27 AM

Just notifying that I'm getting a connection timed out error. It's responding as if I am blacklisted. If I am that's also an explanation, but just in case I'm not.

Astro 13-02-2015 02:32 PM

Did you ever find a someone with the know how to fix this problem?

I get the timeout every so often.

vitaraq18 13-02-2015 04:53 PM

I never get times out.

DoctorStrange 24-02-2015 04:09 PM

I'm trying to post urls (links) but it's not allowing me to.

Says, i need 15 posts, but i already have 25.

Robinski78 24-02-2015 05:21 PM

You also need to have been a member for two weeks, to use certain features... Not sure when you joined...

DoctorStrange 24-02-2015 06:00 PM

I joined on the 1st of this month.
Weird.

Gemcrusader 17-04-2015 11:10 AM

Forum got real small in text. How do i get it bigger again? My other pages are just normal.

Adrienne 17-04-2015 11:32 AM

Try pressing Ctrl and the + key at the same time .... this usually makes the type larger on your computer , which would also make the forum print larger.

LoneFlower 23-06-2015 01:08 AM

Um... what has been happening with the site? Almost all day yesterday the site kept coming up as a white page with black text saying an error and asking to send an e-mail to the spiritualforums webmaster. o___o?

Dragonfly1 23-06-2015 01:37 AM

That's called a crash lone, its been offline in the past for over 3 weeks, so a day is not much downtime in the scheme of things......well done webmasters for getting SF back online so quickly......thumbs up!

maejin 23-06-2015 04:24 AM

Thankyou webmasters for rescuing the site quickly :)
