Isochronic tones (ISO) and Binaural Beats

Can audio tones shift your Consciousness?

I do not pretend to know for sure but I have been experimenting with and deriving some benefit from both of these audio methods.
Here I shall try to explain them a little and offer some insight into their use.

It has long been accepted that our brain works at differing levels.

The expression used is Hertz (Hz) this is a unit of measurement for things such as sound.
1 Hz = 1 cycle per second so if you tap your finger on a key of your key board at a regular relaxed pace ......... you will probably be doing so at about 2Hz or twice a second.
Still with me :D

Many of you will know that when our hearing is good we can hear sounds within the range of 20Hz (low base sound) to 20,000 Hz very high pitch.

Brain waves have been measured as follows:

13 to 40 Hz Beta waves (Active, busy or anxious thinking and active concentration)
7 to 13 Hz Alpha waves Relaxation (while awake)
4 to 7 Hz Theta waves Dreams, deep meditation, hypnosis
4 Hz Delta waves Deep dreamless sleep.

As you will note, it is only part of the Beta range that we could expect to hear.

Many people including scientists think that the brain can be moved into the above states by subjecting it to tones within the ranges.
However a way needs to be found to do this as we can't hear most of the ranges.

This is where Binaural Beats come in.

Binaural Beats are made with sine wave generators and are used to create two separate frequency waves which are introduced to each ear independently. (headphones) The brain reacts by creating a third tone which is the difference between the two.

A sine wave is nothing more than a smooth curving line that goes up and down and you will all know tones like this from the beeps on your computer to alarm clocks etc. (time pips)

So, if we wanted to move our brain waves into the 7Hz range we could use one tone at 100Hz and one at 107Hz the difference being 7Hz our brain being very cleaver will do the maths and when relaxed you might notice a regular cyclic third sound.
I can't yet post links but will do later on to demonstrate this to you.

This is one method of giving our brains a frequency to fix onto that is outside of our normal hearing range.

The other more modern method (Binaural has been around for 100+ years) is
Isochronic tones.

Isochronic tones are regular beats of a single fixed tone.
The gap between the tones is the required frequency so a tone would be broken 7 times per second to arrive at out 7Hz above.
ISO tones do not require headphones and they are felt to be more effective.

OK there is a lot of information there to take in at one time.
I'll post more here very soon describing the benefits that some people gain from these tones.

Regards all

Mike

There would be a difference between in-phase and out-of-phase tones I think.

Hmm, I am not sure since it is the frequency value of the tones that matters.
I think you would get a different sound output, the stereo effect would be exaggerated maybe?

Something to try some time, I guess I could just swap the +/- cables over on one speaker to try it!

These sounds are usually not listened to on their own, gentle musical scores are used to carry the tones making for a far more relaxing sound scape.

These have worked very well for me - I have a collection of Brain Sync meditation tracks using binaural beats which I love, they really helped me in the beginning when I found meditation challenging and I still use them sometimes.

I don't know much about the technical side of it, but I do recommend trying it as a way to help guide yourself into deeper meditative states.

The combination of binaural beats and solfeggio frequencies seems to help me have a peaceful nights sleep and I wake up feeling more refreshed.

You can give it go here if you would like.

Thanks for those Neville

Yes there are a number on youtube.
I hope to explore this subject a lot more on this thread, including which frequencies do people feel most relaxed with, is there a point at which you notice your brain waves have changed and much more :-)

All of these brainwaves cycle to pulses of sound, each ear intakes the sounds. When a person evolves and learns to balance the right brain (intellect) and left brain (emotions) in its use, binaural beats occur. The rhythmic harmony of binaural beats produce what is called hemispheric synchronization, which gives creative insight into yourself and the world around you, feelings of euphoria, intense abilities to focus and a sense of deep calmness that enables the reticular system to enhance our learning abilities. Our ventral tegmental area of the brain stem will allow us to experience life with pleasure and no vice. In this state of mind, we will have the abilities of the angels. We will become Christ like or as some call it an automaton.

During sleep or deep mediations where the senses are drawn from the external world and focused on an inner one, and like shamanic ecstasy, are the Theta waves at 4 to 8 HZ. Shamans beat drums at 4.5 cycles per second in order to travel into another realm of reality to learn of themselves through out time and space. Biology of the brain backs up this ingenious knowing of the shaman in the fact that in this level of energy is where our hippocampus in our brain controls our learning and memory. The Crown chakra is in this domain as the b-note of cosmic awareness that shines is the color of violet. With parallel interests, the beat goes on in what is called a square wave. In modern technology, the square wave is mainly used in electronics and signal processing like the movement of a clock or in primitive times, the beating of a drum for it only contains odd harmonics. This wave amazingly generates and creates electromagnetic radiation that can distort other currents, which allows the Shaman to experience alternate realities.

The drumming produces binaural beats.
