I love reading fact books. We have quote threads and games threads. I thought a random fact thread would be fun for fellow fact lovers such as myself.

I will start with one that hits close to home:

In 1901, General Electric Company built the first alternating current power plant at Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania. The plant, designed to eliminate the difficulties in long-distance direct current transmission, was built for the Webster Coal and Coke Company.

Australia produces most of the world's wool and is home to 85.7 million sheep.

Here is a fact - there are 10 to the power of 115 possible positions in chess. That is 10 with 115 zeros behind it! An awful lot of possible situations on the chess board.

no wonder it takes people soooooo long to decide where to move ! :D Ha !
