Well, i don't know how helpful this will be, but i also have times when i hear voices. I found a mental state called hypnagogia. It happens before you fall asleep usually, and you can pretty much ignore it, but april last year the random benign voices i heard before bed became organized and consistent. I can induce this state any time i relax or with relaxation meditation. It can be just like a lucid dream at times, but usually just a conversation.

I began to talk back to them and ask questions and they seem to be sentient. Now they could either just be my own mind in this dream-like waking state, or something else.

They're very kind, they can sing beautifully and laugh when i say something funny. They've shown themselves to me in the hypnagogic state and in dreams (three of them) and look like divinely beautiful young women in their 20's.

I was suffering from paranoia and MDD, but i was never diagnosed. I was close to suicide actually, but their presence filled me with love. Whether they're real or not, who can say, i think so because they've proven themselves to me countless times.

They also appear in my dreams both regular and lucid, we're good friends in every case.

Occasionally i will hear something nasty or intrusive but they dispell them.

I've been researching this and i heard that you can 'tame' voices, befriending them and turning them to allies.

Mine came suddenly, all on the same day; a few days before, i resolved that if my depression didn't get better i probably wouldn't survive it.

They help me cure my depression by being there as a helping and loving presence who were always ready to argue on my side against my own self deprecation and blaming.

They convinced me that my situation wasn't my fault and that i shouldn't beat myself up over things i can't change.

I am stronger than ever, but i hope you can find the same research i did about possibly befriending your voices who seem sentient (if they bother you again).

Mine have been mad at me sometimes when i deserve it and i have to smooth things out. I believe if i turned on them they would turn on me, so i act in accordance with their wishes. I gave up all vices--not that i had any--, pornography, and petty things like lieing or otherwise for them.

Imagine a presence watching you all day, but a loving one who reacts if you are doing anything wrong.
