I want to chime in as a "potty mouth" person. My current boss has a great attitude of chivalry and respect. He swears, but when a female is present, he will always apologise for his language. Or ask us to cover our ears in advance.

There is something about that, it really made me feel like a lady, someone respected and it gave me a great sense of dignity.

I notice when I'm not swearing, how much stronger I feel within myself, the simple exercise of control over my language I think pervades through my psyche.

I've been super busy at work, the language has not been atrocious but there has been more than the odd expletive and my boss has ceased to apologise for his language in front of me. And i miss that, it made me feel special and of value. I need to get it back on track.

So thanks for this reminder. We do each other a huge service in terms of respecting them and ourselves to be mindful of our language. And, it sparks a creativity within us, a very pure creativity to think of delightful ways of expressing ourselves without diminishing our language (which I would argue is good for the sacral chakra).

Yeah I think its censored that word out for me too in the past eg such as in "trying to deal with c r a p in my life" I guess I could say "bad things in life" but I don't like the word bad which sounds worst as far as negative brain programming then the other word.

I found that censor very very weird as that c r word isn't even seen as a swear word in my country and children could use it at school and not get into any trouble. I guess it must be different in other countries seeing someone here said they didn't like the word?

I guess that also is happening with some other words too which may not be seen as being bad at all in some countries and used as normal words or just seen as slang rather then swearing but may be in others.

I think there was another word I once used too which to my shock was seen as a swear word here.

(I do though like sites to not have a lot of swearing on them, I think it makes spiritual places nicer esp when some people can be habital swearers) and if I had children here, I wouldn't like them to be around swearing.

Yes, we must cater for the perceptions of everyone. Even if for some swearing is okay. For others it might not be. It is good to respect the beliefs and ideals of others. For each is just as important as the other and together that is how we grow and work towards a more fluent and orderly way of life that works for everyone.

I find it more offensive to use internet short hand than any swear word that I could possibly read.

WriTin t1ngs lik dis hrts meh brayn 2 try 2 re3d nd in me opinonion is wrse dan usn da wurd Cr Ap.

I also find it hypocritical to remove certain words from my vocabulary that have perfectly legitimate uses other than cussing. like "As*" for example but leaving the word Hell. Example: What the hell... is a profane use of the word, but referring to the place would not be. Same as calling someone and *** clown is profane use of the word but referring to applicable animals using the same word is all right as long as it is a proper context.

And that is not to mention the fact that the words are censored.. Replace the *** with any other word you want because after this is posted anything that trips the filter the word is no longer present.

It is my opinion that it is a very restrictive form of bullspit. lets all be honest here for a moment, Who is really in control of ones actions? the individual. What benefit do we gain by sheltering our children from the world? other than making emotionally unstable brats that eventually will break down and kill themselves or their peers at the first of life's dissapointments. They hear it on TV and in music and on the radio. They read it in books and hell, if they are reading this and they are between the ages of 14-17 then chances are they are watching porn at some point, even if you have the filter set up to block it you can't stop it. It is easy to find and use a backdoor.

What amuses me to no extent is the fact that words, specifically profanity, is considered offensive. I have never understood why, everyone uses them so why the taboo? it is akin to shaming someone for having sex, but in reality you are on this planet because two people got it on.

Personally I think that the filter should be adjusted, I see no reason to use extensive profanity, but so to do i see no reason to filter out certain words just because "why not"

/endrant

With my opinion stated, I yield and require no further discussion on this topic. I am here by choice, it is a privlage to be a part of SF not a right. I will abide by the law that is set down to the best of my ability despite my personal thoughts and opinions on the matter.

Hi Folks...

Sometimes a cuss word is entirely apropriate...Imean it - certain situations - only a cuss word will do to capture and convey EMOTION - for you have to be feeling raw emotion usually,(if we are civilised this is) before we utter the cuss...

To say for instance,I was cleaning the c r a p out of my basement - emphasises this is a real chore,a real endeavour, something totaly not wanted....comapred to saying for instance - i moved some old rubbish out of my basement - which as we see,is far more neutral, has entirely different emotional connotations....

Such words should always be kept in context - but obviously there is no way a software filter can recognise that - and so often times, inoffensive things get said - such as the word c r a p - and the iflter makes a big deal of it when actually,NO it aint a big deal at all...

And btw - youngsters come here...?...So what..?...Have you heard the way they speak to each other...?...lol..Trust me,when youngstrs actually post here, they are making a huge effort NOT to swear, cuss or be offensive,as these things ARE part of their everyday youth culture..It is a moot issue then to say no swearing unless we "ofend the youngstrs" - ridiculous - they are trying NOT to swear or offend us adults, and would naturaly be cussing their little heads off out in public...lol...

All in all a ridiculaous issue start to finish - as if a typed word could ACTUALLY cause harm....youd have to be very weak and delicate person for such a thng to occur - in which case entering into PUBLIC discourse would seem a bit of a problem and such a timid person really should not even be exposing themselves to anything public at all....I mean - the world is HOSTILE Folks - havent you noticed..?..If a few typed cuss words is the least of it,then thats a bonus in my eyes....And if you REALLY want to get peoples truth - than best to allow them to express the Self FREELY....

I'm as rough as guts, and I swear as though it's punctuation, but I still prefer the no swearing environment when it comes to SF. I can also say that I think the moderation has been really well balanced in recent times, and that's not easy to achieve.
