Cats that dig jazz and blues

The soul, that is, the feel is such a thing that only a living musician can achieve. That's the fundamental difference between music and computer generated traks.

One might ask, why is that jazz and blues musicians don't use computer generated tracks? I think the answer is obvious. They don't have to - But they can.

I found a Jazz band from France that does incorporate modern electronic sound. They don't have drums, and instead, their organ player uses a rave-like DJ set-up. This used artfully. Their core genre is quite traditional and they remain true to the roots, but then they push it to the next level.

The band is called Caravan Palace and if I could swear I'd tell you just how awesome they are!

Enjoy.

OMG, 147 views, yet no blues cat, and to think, in a place like this which apparently about the soul, but maybe not, as the bluesmen will all concur, it takes soul to play the blues.

Now, I'm an arrogant music snob, but only because I know about the real human expression and the 'sounds that are marketable', but the most fantastic comes from the soul and is more than popular - it's transformative on the global scale.

Rock music is Black American at is roots, coming from old slave songs, from the gospel of black pentecostal churches, and there were blues and gospel artist, both men and women, with Gospel affording a respectability of God's mission, while the Blues was the devil's deviance.

Whatever, the point is, It's literally out of Africa, as Black American, and like Gods tree of knowledge was inhabited by Satan's snake, The music is the hearken angels, and the whispers of Lucifer's temptation,

My tribute, the one who is true, Nina Simone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4grGAYx9koA

"Four Women"

My skin is black
My arms are long
My hair is woolly
My back is strong
Strong enough to take the pain
inflicted again and again
What do they call me
My name is AUNT SARAH
My name is Aunt Sarah

My skin is yellow
My hair is long
Between two worlds
I do belong
My father was rich and white
He forced my mother late one night
What do they call me
My name is SAFFRONIA
My name is Saffronia

My skin is tan
My hair is fine
My hips invite you
my mouth like wine
Whose little girl am I?
Anyone who has money to buy
What do they call me
My name is SWEET THING
My name is Sweet Thing

My skin is brown
my manner is tough
I'll kill the first mother I see
my life has been too rough
I'm awfully bitter these days
because my parents were slaves
What do they call me
My name is PEACHES

160 views. No blues cats. I think time has gone by and people are not discerning in this age. Thing are now 'good' because someone likes it, ad not 'good' because its the truth. Look at meditation for example, just bliss and all that stuff people want, and not the lived journey of overcoming the obstacles. Like where the blues came from... they were called 'sorrow songs' and to listen one could hear the pain of life, the destitute bondage of slavery, and within that something deep in the spirit, something more evenn that hope - it resonates with an honesty, a dignity of a spirit that can ot be broken, and with that strength, this fundamental invincibility, that deep yearning for freedom which transcends hope altogether.

But no, I don't care about it. Just put on the stuff that 'we like', and as far as I've seen on what is presented as popular on TV, people like what they're told to like, and they are thankful for all that wobbling booty.

If you understand music, you KNOW where it came from, how it evolved, and you like stuff because it's good, which has absolutely nothing to do with personal preference. It's good because it's the soul speaking in the language of emotion. This is something machines now fake so well it's almost believable, but a keen ear can still tell, these are not conscious entities expressing in the moment, but things that sound exactly the same with robotic repetition.

Before you accuse me, I'm telling you strait: I'm a shameless, opinionated, arrogant, stuck up know-it-all when it comes to music. And I damn well earned that privilege. You have no idea how deep in I went, how true to life I have been, so I'm now saying, 160 views and no blues cats leads me to terrible judgments...

At least try to understand that what people like is menial. I don't care what I like and don't like. I like a lot of drivel, myself, but at least I know the difference.

I hope you feel outraged by my arrogant display, at least you feel something, and not just some dancy flicker of excitement like a Beatlemanic schoolgirl, but something like fire, something more destructive, something that wants to break these pathetic barriers of respectibility, to scream at me and call me names. Oh I know people want to, yes, it's seething so close to the surface I can smell it. That where its at, because one side of this soul is held in the devils claw, and the other is reaching for God.

Standing in the ruins of another black mans life
Or flying through the valley
Separating day and night
I am am Death
Cried the vulture
For the people of the light
Caron brought his raft
From the sea that sails on souls
And I saw the scavenger departing
Taking warm hearts to the cold
He knew the ghetto was a haven
For the meanest creature ever known
In a wilderness of heart break
In a desert of despair
Evil's clarion of justice
Shrieks a cry of naked terror
Taking babies from their mamas
Leaving grief beyond compare
So if you see the vulture coming
Flying circles in your mind
Remember their is no escaping
For he will follow close behind

Only promise me a battle
A battle
For your soul and mind

And mine
And mine

I haven't listened to it much before, But I'm diggin' this cat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN7Zsy3x_Vw

Basie was never really commonplace
He was always measures ahead.
Ellington was more than number one
For the music and things that he said.
Bird was the word back when tenors were heard
From Kansas right up to the Prez
And Billie was really the Queen of a scene
That keeps echoing on in my head.

What it has will surely last but is that Jazz?

Miles had a style that amazes and raises
The spirits from deep in your soul.
'Trane struck a vein of laughter and pain
Adventures the mind could explore.
Stevie and Bob talk of freedom and 'Jah'
In their own individual ways.
Playing and singing as long as its bringing
A message is all that it says.

What is has will surely last but is that Jazz?

We overanaylze we let others define
A thousand precious feelings from our past.
When we express love and tenderness
Is that Jazz? Is that Jazz? Is that Jazz? Is that Jazz?

Dizzy's been busy while Grover gets us over
With notes that go straight to the heart.
Brother Ron gets it on with a bassline so strong
That the sounds seem to glow in the dark.
I take pride in what's mine - is that really a crime -
When you know I ain't got nothing else?
Only millions of sounds picks me up when I'm down;
Let me salvage a piece of myself.

What it has will surely last but is that Jazz?

Do you even realise when you look here and then leave that I'm providing a education? Yes, that's arrogant, and you are likely clueless as to what I'm talking about. I fact I'm imagining you want it to be nice but there's this cat Gem who's saying something which isn't 'nice', and instead, saying something which is actually substantial.

look at the lyrics in the previous post:

Who are Basie, Ellington, Bird, Billie, Miles, 'Trane and all the rest he mentions.

I mean do you know who G.S. Heron is, for a start? Some say the cat is the Godfather of Hip Hop, and it's like you cats think of maybe Tu Pak or some 'guy' like Kanye (who hasn't earned the right to be called a cat) because you're not finding out the real. You're being sucked in by the commercial giants who write anyone they want into or out of the history of our cultural memory. You think Elvis wrote Hound Dog! That's the difference, cats like me know what Heron's lyrics are talking about. The man is paying tribute to where HE comes from. I know where that is. And I have been to that place, myself.

The next posts will introduce you to all the cats Heron aspires to and owes himself to, and also, enables me to understand what it's all about, man.

No one'sgoig to like it, because the roots are within something ugly which people don't want look at, and as we just go about the superficial nice things, not in positivity per se, but in fear of negativity, the singers from pain are left to their poverty, and planted 6 feet down in unmarked graves, literally.

You probably don't even know who Bessie Smith is. So few these days know the name, and there's many who'd see her forgotten, so let me show how a woman can sing in ways and of things that no one likes to a woman to say.

G.S. heron doesn't mention her, but Bessie is known as the Empress of the Blues. She died in 1937, and was buried in an unmarked Grave, until Janis Joplin (please don't tell me you don't know who that is) and Jaunita Green, an an employee of Smith, paid for her headstone in 1970. Without Empress Smith, as well the as Queen, Billy Holiday, there would have been no Janis. Janis both aspired to and owed herself the royalty who paved the way, and after 33 years, she and a black house servant gave Bessie a proper memorial. God rest their souls.

So, G.S. Heron started with mentioning Count Basie, which I provided a link to, and next he Refers to Duke Ellington. He's is a leading cat in Jazz, so everyone really should have heard of him if they listen to music of any kind. It's like you have to know the Duke.

These songs are from his very early days, but recorded in '58 here, so its not all scratchy, but from the roots era of the '20's

Nice tribute to these jazz greats. Nina Simone's songs remastered would be quite something with the new tech, I guess they could attempt that with all the greats.

Yay! A jazz and blues cat! And one knows "the high priestess", Nina Simone. Shes my heroine. This morning I was beginning to wonder, but you've restored my faith in humanity!

Botticella22 24-08-2016 05:16 AM

Billie Holiday and Ella Fitgerald - my two absolute favorites! They are my jazz queens.
