Master and Student

Master and Student
By jeff Wilson

Once upon a time high in the Himalayan mountains in a cave there was an Enlightened Master.
One day his most zealous student came into the cave with a burning question.
The Master was sitting there with his eyes closed
and a calm expression on his face.
The student pondered upon whether or not he should interrupt the old Sage,
and finally his impatience got the better of him.
“Master, please show me the Path to Enlightenment,”
the young student asked.
The master said nothing,
just remained there as silent and unmoving as a stone.

The student was beside himself with aspiration for Enlightenment
and once again asked, more loudly this time,
”Master, please show me the Path to Enlightenment.”.
Again the Master did not move,
did not blink an eye,
just remained as still and silent as a stone.

Well the student was getting a little angry at his Master for not helping him with his question and once more he queried the old sage,
this time in a very loud voice,”
Master, please tell me how do I find peace of mind,
how do I achieve Enlightenment?”

Well the master opened his eyes and looked right into the eyes of the student and said,

” Shut up, Shut up SHUT UP!!!”

The student ran from the cave very hurt and angry,
and left the Teacher to become a farmer.

Sadly he didn’t realize that his request to be shown the path, was answered
…as well as his request to be told the Path to Enlightenment…

He he

When the Student asked the Teacher to show him the Path
The Teacher remained in Silence and Bliss

Showing him that the Path
is through Silence
and Bliss

Then when he raised his voice and asked to be Told what to do...
The Teacher told him to "Shut Up"..

The answer “Shut Up”….was very concise….

No wasted words….

It’s the lack of mental and emotional silence that deprives us of Enlightenment…..

Generally speaking we learn more from quietly Listening
than we do from continually talking...
and thinking.
Simple.

This is a lesson that has been really hitting home with me the past few months.

Good message... I know all answers are within but i have always wanted a spiritual Guru or Master to look up to and learn from...

I get the message... and I know ti is more about that then the narrative... however... i think the teacher needs to learn a thing or two about teaching... in my view he failed his student by trying to be clever...

hmmm... well yes, of course, the answer is to dive into the silence.

And... it's poor teacher who isn't willing to respond to a student as he requires and show him How.

Anything more than 'Shut Up' or 'Be Quiet' by the Master would be colouring it in for the student ... less is more sometimes ...

The mind is already colored, in fact muddied, which is why we have teachings and practices to get clear.

when the mouth is open the ears are not. :D

sound: Exactly!

There is no better way than to teach by example
the Teacher Showed his student what was needed..
He demonstrated Peace
But the student was too caught up in his little Ego needs
To hear the Silent answer

So then the student becomes angry
and raises his voice at his Teacher
Demands that he tell him how to find Enlightenment

The teacher answered him
very concisely
But the students ego Ran him off to become a Farmer.

Rivendoah...
The Teacher was in no way trying to be clever
He was in a place of Peace
The teacher was teaching by showing
not just talking
And at the same time the student was being tested....
Was the student ready to Learn?
The Teachers Job is not for the student to decide
The student was so full of ego
That the episode made it clear
he wasn't a worthy student for the Teacher to Teach.

Hey Solace 733
Your teacher will come to you at first from many directions...
So it won't necessarily appear the way you imagine...
But the Good Teachers don't need to be the vehicle
they are the intention behind the vehicles...
They w...... OK, well there's more than one...
They will guide you through many ......
lessons......
stay vigilant.

Maybe the real problem was the student saw someone as a master and imagined himself as a student.
