An old friend once quoted that one. How magnanimous.

Thanks for the reminder Uma (and this thread)

They get competitive? How cute  Sounds like a rough ride though :icon_frown: :hug3:

Just out of curiosity have you ever ridden bareback?

I tried riding bareback and nearly slid off, so never again, lol

It was like riding a jack hammer if you can imagine that. I was used to having smooth rides from her but from time to time, she'd chop up her gaits if she was upset about me for some reason or other. The usual reason was for me to get more connected and smooth with the riding cues.

How interesting, Chrysalis! Beautiful personalities - or so I imagine

Thanks so much for sharing - it makes me (and obviously a few of us here) very happy.

Horse experiences

A long time ago my son rode horses as part of his summer therapy. He went to a wonderful ranch and rode big beautiful horses, most of them “retired.” Part of the training was to learn horse “ear language.” I have forgotten the terms and the meaning of the positions, but it was a beautiful non-threatening way to teach a child with social skill issues the expressions of a horse!

His horses used to do silly things to make him laugh! One horse was known to take the color ring off the post after he had put them on. Another horse stalked and dunked a decoy duck in the water tank.

He began riding at age 5 and he was fearless. He would sit, turn around lay down, twist, kneel. His horses were rock solid and he was no nonsense. It was a great match.

Ironically the last dressage competition he participated in was judged by a woman I had met in another state 20 years before when I was a volunteer for a program for persons with disabilities. So, it all came full circle.

Horses sit in a special place in my heart! ❤️

I'm so glad for your son that he had that experience, Anala
