Nice nice nice! You got me hooked way back when, I know how addictive it can be lol.

Deusdrum 21-06-2014 01:13 AM

Aww yeah Kaere :) Glad you likey. Nice warm vibes with this label's artists/music. Bought & downloaded a bunch of their compilations and can't get enough of it.

Came back to the thread to change/switch up a song from the above, but I'll just throw it on the pile here. Couple actually.

Officially disappointed there are no dancing bananas on the smilies list. Had my heart set on a dancing banana for this post.

If you read this and listen to any of the songs, please do me a favor and imagine a dancing banana smiley while enjoying the music. Make sure he dances in time, too. Gracias.

I'm off to lodge a complaint into the forum suggestion box expressing my outrage at the lack of one of the most basic of staple smilies that is the dancing banana. How do you not have a dancing banana. I remember back in the early 00's, a person could depend on places having a dancin' banana. Those days are gone now, might as well face it.

Faith33 25-06-2014 07:30 AM

How's this one Deus?

Deusdrum 25-06-2014 04:19 PM

Hey thank you Hope, you're close. Not the traditional dancing banana I was thinking of, but it is a dancing smiley so that works. :)

Looks like I'll have to import my dancing bananas from elsewhere in future, hrmm. Thanks a lot SF... not!

Here's some Henry Saiz who I'm a big fan of. First couple are from his Reality Addendum LP which was just released.

It was the only smiley on hand...lol

I loved the first tune, reminded me of flamenco so I looked him up. Yes... the Spanish temperament shines through. Very nice.

I'll post a few from a minimal, tech house kind of artist (I think? bad at knowing which genre is which sometimes) named Trentemoller. It's minimalistically funky stuff. Second song is an anthem kind of epic that sounds wonderful in my friends expensive car (well actually truck) stereo, the few times that we've pumped it in his vehicle. Head nod worthy. Last song link is probably his most popular track, melancholy in a soothing sort of way.

I've loved (some) electronic music ever since the first synths began showing up on records by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The Who , and of course one of the seminal groups: Tangerine Dream . After I found Bill Nelson in 1995 I saw (and heard! ) that he had been something of an experimental/electronica pioneer (along with duties as a minor rock diety).
I could go on , and I will add that I have a bit of my own music up on

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...&content=music

some work I did with Arp X8 arpeggiator software and a Korg rack synth . Strictly for fun .

Oh, also some beautiful work by a departed friend on soundclick: The Shed Man , and also his other page Graeme Cammack , may he rest in space.

You read my mind, Dar!

I was intending to PM you about which Bill Nelson CD might have his most digital music. At this moment in time I have little to no interest in rock bands, the unplugged sound, etc.
My musical tastes are mainly digital produced in MIDI format (aka electronic music).

I would listen to Steve Hillage way back in my teens and thought he was one of the most exciting guitarist ever. Nowadays his guitar sound is minimal, devoting most of his time in computer music - the Digital Audio Workstation.
I have great respect for the man who has adapted to modern music and can still produce exciting, original, and innovating sounds.

So I'm now interested to know if Bill Nelson has done much computer music ?

(My internet credit is very low and youtube videos will drain what's left. I'll return to this thread next week.)

Cheers

You might like my stuff (maybe even some of the acoustic guitar stuff that has mutant sound effects on it) . The Arp X8 is an automated midi sequence generator that can do up to 8 channels at once. I spend time setting the individual patterns up and matching them to a patch (sound) on the Korg, and then let it rip : 8 tracks going with one touch of the midi keyboard .
Those are all several years old .

Anyway , the best thing is to just burn some compilations of Bill's stuff and mail them to you , assuming you have a cd player . Or maybe I could email
mp3 files. CD's would be easier . Much of his best work is guitar based , but don't let that detract from it's beauty.
Much is drenched in strange noises you aren't sure where they're coming from , and the EBow sounds from guitar are
stunning . He's been a 'one man band' for decades but only plays guitar as an actual instrument; otherwise it's all digital or midi .
He says all his bass playing is midi keyboard , and all his drums are samples. The richest palette of sounds around .

Deusdrum 22-08-2014 11:23 AM

Thanks Dar & thistle for dropping by the thread. :)

Love Dead Can Dance, am an Ulrich Schnauss fan and have a Vibrasphere album which I enjoy; also have some Tangerine Dream that comes up on shuffle every so that i inherited though otherwise haven't taken the time to listen to though I know they're old school, did the music to the movie Legend which i do remember. Very enchanting and atmospheric, suited that movie perfectly.

Eno obviously though I tend to like more the bands etc. he works with though he has some great tunes also of course. Sphongle I've heard of lots but never got into for whatever reason.

Haven't heard of Bill Nelson though you two talking him up has convinced me to check him out. I'm also interested to hear your music Dar (and your friend's).

So I'll be back. I'll bring songs with me too next post.

Honza 23-08-2014 09:13 PM

I recommend the two albums by Moderat. They're are excellent.

TesseLated 23-08-2014 10:14 PM

I'm a huge electronica fan...recognize a lot of music people have put up.
My favorite band of all time is SoundTribe Sector Nine...STS9...Have been seeing them since 2000..and their shows are like a dream...esp. when they were still small...2000-2004..

Ahh what great shows..Here is a sample of their vibe..I'd always feel like exploding after one of their shows. They are true musicians/artists.

*Well-won't let me post the URLs even though I have more than 15 posts...It'll have to blow your mind later..

They play instruments but weave in the loops...etc...amazing to watch

*I didn't plow through the whole thread yet...somebody maybe already knows about them...If so, good for them..

If you care to...look up...STS9 - Ramone & Emiglio into Eb.. Groove TV

Early stuff-just amazing...by far the best shows I've seen...and that's quite a bit indeed

Ott is one opf the big dogs, in my opinion !
He put out a great cd a couple years ago; I have it but forgot the title.
Here's 'Squirrel & Biscuits ' from it (don't miss the 2nd half ! from 3:47 on :icon_eek: :D )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRa42_X8xoY

I've had the one you noted for a while .... good stuff !
I do like STS9; hadn't heard of them. Nice to see rock
and electronic together , updated. So much of the hard trance, goa, psych just annoys me , and I don't like house , so I have trouble finding what works for me .

My grandson (15) was obsessed with Dubstep last year , and I like some of that because it's basically updated reggae/dub music, but he didn't know that.

Old school Kitaro: Morning Prayer , a fave for over 25 years

Deusdrum 24-08-2014 11:50 AM

Sound Tribe Sector 9 is a really unique group. Can't recall exactly where I came across them or what they sound like so much, but it made an impression on me as being quality, highly original and novel stuff.

Dar interesting songs, do you play the guitar in those yourself? Your late friends music is interesting too, I like it. Builds nicely, reminds me a bit of Hybrid for some reason.

It boggles my mind why people don't like house, but another guy I was hanging out with awhile back was completely anti-house too. Different strokes i suppose, which is fair enough. Lot of house is boring and repetitive, but I always enjoy dancing to good house, breaks, dnb or anything with some groove or funk to it.

Plenty of trance I do enjoy but usually find it hard to dance to for whatever reason.

As luck would have it I came here to post some house tunes, lol.

Anyways, thanks for the replies all, love to hear some new music. Have yet to check out Bill Nelson so that's next on my music forums threads to do list.

Artifact is a great one...Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace is amazing..has some of the classics that show lovers want to see when they go to a show..

Now they are more of a banger/midi sound...still do those songs though. The bass player left which was somewhat of a lynch pin...wow..when that bass is turned up...so good..

First album...completely insane..I cant believe they are playing that stuff w/looping in all the electronics..they do this live...WHILE they are playing instruments..transitions are incredible.

Seasons 1/2..as well...

Peaceblaster...has good moments, but a little meh...as well as When The Dust Settles...those are later albums.

If you want a playlist of seeing any of this stuff live..good clips- in other words.. check out my playlist..My name is soundtribejunkie on youtube. There's nothing like seeing them live.

Dubstep can get a little much when it's not used right..Somebody I'm into listening to right now is Grammatik...sooo talented...damn..wish I could post a link...grrr...anyway...he uses SOME...he just slips it in there..ha..He uses lots of samples..motown-ish...hip-hoppy sound-and with amazing drops. Check out the Best Of Grammatik on YT...The album cover with a guy that looks like Jerry Garcia smoking a big joint...also there are many full albums on there of his to listen to..

When I clicked the above URL it gave me an error-saying it doesn't exist..ha...I'll look it up :)

Hybrid is pretty intense...like Justice to me. If you like the Dnb stuff-check out the earliest STS9 albums...that's what they started off as/heavily influenced. Drummer is amazing.

Love talking about all this music I love...not too many people get it. -_-

Big Sasha fan, saw him and Digweed on their Northern Exposure tour years ago and Sasha's set hit all the right notes. Had me moving for sure. Suppose it can be a fine line b/t house and trance, or a bpm or two. Airdrawndagger is a great Sasha album and I still even quite enjoy what he's producing these days.

As for Hybrid, yeah I could see that. Case in point I sent the album Soundsystem 01 to a friend of mine and apparently (allegedly) he had a ufo sighting at a peak moment in the album while listening to it and having a smoke outside.

Love Wider Angle and that album quite a bit. Here is the full album in question, highly recommended. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDSRAUoQ9p0

No guarantees to see ufo's while listening lol, it's never worked for me anyways, not that I've attempted listening to it in that capacity with that in mind.

Has some Lisa Gerrard in there and quite a few other choice tracks, it's a continuous mix album of other artist's tracks. Find it a curious coincidence that he saw a ufo while listening to a 'Hybrid' album. Seems appropriate.

Honza 24-08-2014 07:02 PM

Hernan Cattaneo & Danny Tenaglia are releasing new mixes soon, plus there is a new mix from GU - Hamburg - by Solomun too.

Yes..saw them @ Bonnaroo in '07...played until 5am  I was exhausted...and we camped in BFE...NOT a good walk back..ha...some guy offered us pizza...haha..too tired to even eat it

Sasha's website used to have a mixer on it that was fun to play with..

And yes...appropriate..an experience of a lifetime to see a UFO..Had so many dreams about seeing them...totally expansive-them coming-and the greatest thing ever..I digress..

I will check out what you put up there..the link

And Dar-listened to Skylon/Ott today at the gym...lol...was great for the cardio part...in a check out kind of way...and whatever that was @ about 21 min. kicked A .. :D

Been listening to the STS9 album Artifact. It's a bit too downtempo for me, but it's good and actually reminds me of Fila Brazillia's work. Anyone heard of Fila Brazillia?
