Has anyone ever had a bad dream...or a disturbing dream....&/or one you couldn't understand?

...or a recurring dream that felt disturbing or seemed negative?

If so, has anyone tried to "sweeten the dream" using the "alchemic incantation" in the Gemara (Berachot 55b) to transmute the dream for the good?

I did this over the weekend...once I finally was able to recall this disturbing recurring dream I was having. And I have to say, there is something therapeutic as well as metaphysical...healing emotionally and spiritually...to this incantation.

Here it is...
Peace & blessings,

WHAT TO DO ABOUT DREAMS
(a) (Rav Huna bar Ami): If one is bothered by a dream, he should interpret it in front of three people.
(b) Objection: Rav Chisda taught that a dream that is not interpreted is like an unread letter (nothing will come from it)!
(c) Correction: Rather, he should amend it in front of three people, as follows:
1. He tells them, "I saw a good dream"; they respond, "It is good, it will be good, Hash-m will make it good, may Shamayim decree seven times that it will be good, and it should be good for you!"
2. They should say three verses of rerversal, three of redemption, and three of peace:
i. The three of reversal: "Hafachta Mispedi l'Machol Li Pitachta Saki va'Te'azreni Simchah," and "Az Tismach Besulah... v'Hafachti Evlam l'Sason," and "v'Lo Avah Hash-m Elokecha Lishmo'a El Bil'am va'Yahafoch..."
ii. Three of redemption: "Padah b'Shalom Nafshi...," "u'Feduyei Hash-m Yehuvun," "va'Yomer ha'Am El Shaul... [va'Yifdu ha'Am Es Yehonason v'Lo Mes"].
iii. Three of Shalom: "Borei Niv Sefasayim Shalom Shalom la'Rachok vela'Karov...," "v'Ru'ach Lovshah Es Amasai...[Shalom Lecha v'Shalom l'Ozrecha]," "va'Amartem Ko Lechai v'Atah Shalom..."

R. Huna b. Ammi said in the name of R. Pedath who had it from R. Johanan: If one has a dream which makes him sad he should go and have it interpreted in the presence of three. He should have it interpreted! Has not R. Hisda said: A dream which is not interpreted is like a letter which is not read?8 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_8) — Say rather then, he should have a good turn given to it in the presence of three.

Let him bring three and say to them: I have seen a good dream; and they should say to him, Good it is and good may it be. May the All-Merciful turn it to good; seven times may it be decreed from heaven that it should be good and may it be good.

They should say three verses with the word hapak [turn], and three with the word padah [redeem] and three with the word shalom [peace].

Three with the word 'turn', namely (i) Thou didst turn for me my mourning into dancing, Thou didst loose my sackcloth and gird me with gladness;9 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_9) (ii) Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow;10 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_10) (iii) Nevertheless the Lord thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee.11 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_11)

Three verses with the word 'redeem', namely, (i) He hath redeemed my soul in peace, so that none came nigh me;12 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_12) (ii) And the redeemed of the Lord shall return and come with singing unto Zion … and sorrow and sighing shall flee away;13 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_13) (iii) And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? … So the people redeemed Jonathan that he died not.14 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_14)

Three verses with the word 'peace', namely, (i) Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith the Lord that createth the fruit of the lips; and I will heal him;15 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_15) (ii) Then the spirit clothed Amasai who was chief of the captains: Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: Peace, peace, be unto thee and peace be to thy helpers, for thy God helpeth thee;16 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_16) (iii) Thus ye shall say: All hail! and peace be both unto thee, and peace be to thy house, and peace be unto all that thou hast.17 (http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/redir.php?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiritualforums.co m%2Fvb%2Fl%252055b_17)

Here's something else...

Dreamt a disturbing dream, but can't remember it? The Talmud recommends reciting the following prayer while the kohanim bless the people:
"Master of the World! My dreams and I belong to You.... If the dreams are good — bolster them like the dreams of Joseph. And if they need to be remedied — fix them like the bitter waters that Moses sweetened... Just as You transformed the curses of wicked Balaam into blessings, so too, make all of my dreams be for the best." ([I]Berachot 55)

 Good question...

I am falling down on the job last few days...LOL...so I have to consume even more rumi, hafiz, neruda, chocolate, caffeine, and mysticism than usual...guess it's been working -- you couldn't tell!

The truth is God is one of us...because God is in all of us...and God reaches us through the heart of another. And opens us up to the light. But you know that :)

Love is the higher law. And God is love. That is really the whole secret.

Here's the other thing...when you feel like dirt on a shoe...and that all you have is your love of God, that's when the angels are holding your hands, because that's exactly how they feel...the lowliest of the low...but their love & their service sanctifies them and raises them up. When you feel like that...you see through the angels' eyes. When you feel like you're nothing...then you're everything. When you feel like there's no personal love for you in this lifetime, you can follow the angel's path to save your life.

But truthfully...I can only take a little bit of credit for myself...I am loved and I don't really deserve it. My heart and soul have been lit up by love...coming and going. It's hard to explain. And I'll be honest...I prefer the human love and relationship with God to the angel's love and relationship under God, even though we need it all.

I have always had an obsession with angels. I kept expecting one to save me from all the hell I was going through. It seems I never get what I expect, and to make matters worse I was pretty much born this way. I didn't find my family to be very appealing. It was pretty much a downward spiral from there...

my experiences with angels has been limited but always full of great meaning...at many crossroads...they are there. They were there...but often you dont see them unless you give your love to God in total humility and hold out your hands. The spirit beings holding your hands...those are the angels.

They will support you but they cant move for you, until you choose the light. Periodically you may have to make this choice again...for example choosing life over death...or hope over hopelessness. Once you choose, you've broken through and then the angels can move with you. You may sense their presence before you can see them...but the angels, and the love of God, are always there.

Peace & blessings,

There is so much I want to say about Sweetening the Dream but I will start with this:

A bad dream is actually a really good dream waiting to be revealed.
The dream is potentially so good, that it first had to be hidden in a dark cloak.

There is a repeating theme in the Torah that blessings can appear first as curses.
The greater the curse, the greater the potential blessing.

With enough effort, each of us can turn curses into blessings.
Then its not just a blessing that G-d gives us, but rather a blessing that we have realized for ourselves.

P.S. Our Dream is right here.

Hi Manda

I haven't had recurring dreams but I had some orrible ones :icon_eek:

What I am noticing more and more though Is that I am getting quicker at realizing that I am In a dream regardless of what the dream Is about.

Last night I dreamed of a jumbo jet and me the pilot the passangers were on board. The plane was In the mountains literally. It was maneuvering like a car going down a rocky path. I thought to myself well this Is stupid lol this Is a plane why are we not flying?, but I knew I was dreaming It and I went along with the oddness. he hehe

Perhaps It's time I took the place of the pilot

At some level I knew it was a dream too...it would get to the part where you walked in and subtly pointed that out to me...LOL...and then I would realise

...but the disturbing part would already have happened and then I kept forgetting everything..

Only the all-pervasive feeling of terror and dread remained...as you said, just 'orrible...thank God it's like so many things...it makes more sense when you get some perspective on it...

That's sounds so giddy until a dream comes along and its actually a prophecy as a reward for the works of the abominations that is prevalent in a particular religion where their G-d plays second fiddle to alien gods. Ahahahaha.

Has anyone had this dream yet?
It starts out in pure bliss with no care in the world and in a blink of an eye a loved one is seen preaching doom to many people in which case they are all laughing at him/her. It's hard to tell everything that was said but the words of Moses one could clearly hear over the laughter and it was something about "a blessing and a curse". To most of the ones that have had this dream it was their daughter or their son preaching. I won't get into too much detail but some of the people that have had this dream and some that will have this dream, because of their parading around as if they are of the righteous bunch but really are of the abomination that causes desolation didn't want to hear of it and they awoke from their slumber. One day while they seemingly forgot about this dream that very daughter/son comes to them and asks "what does Moses mean when he says something about a Blessing and a Curse?".
Some might say that if you follow the commandments of God that were given to Moses(and others) then you and everything you touch will be Blessed but if you knowingly break the commandments of God given to Moses and teach others also you will have to endure the Curse.
As the so called scriptures say even a lie is an abomination just like the name Tammuz on the so called Jewish calendar which doesn't line up with the so called scriptures. I'm starting to see that when I point out what an abomination is my post either gets edited or taken down. Maybe they are racist against the word abomination. Lol

P.S. Our Dream is right here.

What a beautiful sentiment from Esther about choosing to perceive the good, to hone the good, to nurture the good...and generally to alchemically transform one's being in so doing. Not that much may have to be necessarily, honestly, and earnestly dealt with en route to any deeper transformation...but it's good to keep the entire process of being and becoming in perspective.

Look at the time...I'm not the same person as I was 7 years ago, LOL. There was an Indian gent I was communicating with at that time and that is long past...the cultural overlays put onto women were really horrendous, as I recall.

I had a spiritual awakening ongoing and as a part of it all, I realized it is theoretically possible, no matter how slight or rare, for a man to truly look at you as his equal in spirit...yes, even though we are well past the age of schoolyards and innocence. And from this position, any close soul family member can love you authentically just as you are...even if you are a woman and they are men...and they can love you as all you are just like any other beloved family member or friend can do. And not just for what a man wants, demands, expects, feels, penetrates, and so forth, from a woman in the physical sense. This was an incredibly healing and liberating realisation. So I reached out to my close soul family here with a true and authentic heart, no agenda...just love and friendship :hug3:

Unfortunately, I've not always had success here because men have not wanted my beloved friendship, even if they don't want partnerships of any kind. Most just don't want women in their lives who are not sexual partners, unless family. But...sigh...soul family is family. And this has always saddened me. Because I see the connection as it is, just love. With no further need of sex or partnership unless both were available, nearby, and also interested in it. Luckily, my own family and my dear and beloved female soul family connections do value me as I am...they do "get it". I treasure them too, in return. And I still hope for the best with all my close soul family...the door is always open for those who are kind, loving, and who truly come in the spirit of love and reconciliation.

Hopefully I'm quite a bit wiser and I have a much more cautious understanding of soul family of opposite sex...this whole reality and the larger culture makes it very difficult, very tough indeed to pursue any sincere and deeper spiritual connection or grounded friendship between men and women in our day-to-day world. I had such a naïve, trusting, and open heart back then, didn't I? Look at me goofing with Daz and how kind he was to me  It's been a few years since I felt carefree enough to do much of this in IRL and not fear being mocked &/or else just immediately treated like an object for use. It seems the culture has got loads harder, less kind and courteous, and more cynical over the last several years in just so many ways...and that's a shame really. Look at our leaders, many of them, and much of their themes, ...hard, discourteous, vicious almost.

Funny but to me it all makes simple kindness, compassion, forgiveness, and courtesy all the more beautiful, real, and meaningful.

I have found out my open yet centred heart doesn't have a ready place in our cynical, self-absorbed, utilitarian culture of male-female paradigms, and I was sometimes mocked or brushed off even by men I considered to be soul family because I didn't get that men don't want my friendship unless it comes with sex...or else perhaps they only want it at a great distance, almost impersonal. I also still find coffee dates much tougher than they should have to be due to the mindless, gratuitous expectations of sex, entertainment, and ego boosting that many men bring to any interaction.

I learnt a lot about how I don't fit in with the mainstream and I am A-OK with that, hahaha...I stand for who I am and I am not ashamed of it. I'm continuing to carve out a place for courtesy and kindness, I'm finaly working my way back to my open heart (it was a bit beat up for a long time...due to the culture shock I mentioned after awakening)...and I'm more centred than ever.

This understanding about how to transform dreams that are prophetic or lucid was also very timely. And ever since then, I don't believe I've ever had a dream I couldn't handle, lucid or otherwise

But it's all good. It's all to the good, that is :D
All to the good :hug3:
Peace & blessings ...and I have seen a good dream !
