Hey everyone! :)
I'm 21 and currently living in New York. I'm graduating college soon, and not quite sure where life is going to take me.. so my question is, where do you think some of the best physical places on earth are to develop spiritually? It could be for a vacation, to relocate completely, etc..
I live about 5 hours from Salem MA and have visited before and really felt myself in tune with the vibrations there. I loved it from the second I got out of the car. Has anyone else felt like that anywhere, and do you know why that place made you feel that way?

I'm new here, but not new to the spiritual quest. I've been at it since 1987. I think where you belong and where you can develop spiritually are the same thing. Trust your feelings, and you'll end up in the right place. If you go by other people's recommendations, you could end up having to move again within a year. The place that feels good to you is where you belong, even if it turns out that such a place brings unpleasant experiences.
Unpleasant experiences are as much for your growth as the pleasant ones. Don't shy away from them. The question then becomes "where feels good to me?" We're out in the middle of nowhere -- literally. I would never have thought it was where I belong.
Always trust what feels good. I know that sounds weird, but go with it. No one knows what right for you but you.

It's not where you are, but how you feel about yourself and your surroundings.
I used to live in Salem, MA and it's not as spiritual as many people think. There are many witches and spiritual people who live there, but it's a small place. It's great for a visit and I will go back at some point, but I have friends there and other reasons to return.
I used to try and find somewhere 'spiritual' and realized it's not where you are, but who you have around you and how you perceive things.

You will land where you will, most often, to align to the people and places and energy you require where you are in yourself.
SO what you choose will be just right for you..
I once landed in this town not far from my home. Its about one hours drive. I remember I was in this heightened state awakening in myself, but as I drove into it. I had this feeling of being home. I remember in my mind saying. I am home! I am not sure why, I did go through a lot of deeper work while there, perhaps in this moment I was connecting to my future self back then. Because I do feel home now.
It is the feeling of home we seek in every way of our lives.

How about a week at the Kripalu Center in the Berkshires, MA...seems
I remember it was very close to Tanglewood.
There is yoga, meditation, massages, vegetarian food, cleansing, etc.
Moving to Woodstock would be pretty darn cool!
Big things going on there spiritually.

Hi TigerGoddess76
Best places on Earth for spiritual development?
Without question or hesitation, the best answer to that question is always:
Right here and right now.
Also...
Where you can serve the Divine in others.
Where others support and encourage spirituality (sincerely serving the Divine in you) in a positive way.

Well, if you ever pass through the West, stop by the Grand Canyon.
I definitely got a "home" feeling here in Nevada. The air was perfect and the potency of the sun touched my skin like the weather was designed for me. The canyons also echo a strong spiritual essence.I don't think I would want to live here but it's a great trip experience. Maybe I'll visit in 2016, Vegas has some great concerts  and affordable hotels in the summer season to boot
There is a saying that the canyon contains the origin of life and this is where the spirits will finally return

Yes, the best place is in you, now, where you are.
But I know what you mean. You visit somewhere and feel attuned to it.
That's always a good place to be no matter what (LOL, until the second impression tells you otherwise!) My flat is like that. As soon as I viewed it I knew it was me! And because of that, in spite of the occasional neighbour interference, it's still my best place for indoors spiritual practice.

I also second the Southwest of the USA...I just thought it
was kinda far for living in NY.
Many spiritual people come to the Southwest...
the mountains and canyons and rock formations...
a lot of classes, groups, organizations, Buddhist retreats here to plug into...
whether Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico.
Artists galore...legal pot, even.
Drumming groups, Full Moon ceremonies, weekly free-form dancing groups
to pick from at yoga centers, meditation,
from 6-9 pm tonight I'm going to, even. (NY's Eve)
I've lived all over (Midwest, Northeast and Southeast)...the Southwest is just the best so far (and no bugs).

There are some places I go to run or just walk and I can't tell you all the experiences I have had that boggle my mind. Same with just walking in my yard. when I found the place I live now...while the house wasn't anything to write home about there was just something there. I would go and sit on that land even before we owned it (it was vacant at the time so I could do this)...I'd camp out all night with a campfire and I just knew this was MINE. Anything I felt was extremely intense and it's going on 16 years there for me and I still feel the same. Almost like I enter a wonder vortex just being in my yard. It's beautiful.

Sign me up, sounds close to heaven
I'll have to look into doing a retreat this summer. I love the West.
Oh, and kayaking too!

There's an area in western Canada that is a lot like what Miss Hepburn is describing. Fresh air, mountains, rivers, creeks, hotsprings. Wildlife, small and large. Places of deep quiet. Meditation groups, healing centres, workshops, classes. Informal gatherings frequently. Musicians (outdoor concerts and dances in summer). Artists, writers, and arts education. Organic farms, food co-ops. Skiing in winter, kayaking, etc, etc.
Point isn't that the place I'm mentioning is the best place, but that each of us responding to your OP has found areas like this - and most of us have found a number of them. I've experienced at least six or eight of them in the western U.S. and Canada... variations on the theme.
I've met an older generation of 'spiritual people' who were visiting India in their youth (1960s & '70s). They felt it was the greatest! But now India's "issues" - cultural, political, congestion, environmental, medical - seem to put too many hurdles in the way of Westerners, for extended stays or even visits.
Check online sites for places that have a lot of retreat centres, workshops, natural-food shops... even if you have limited interest in the specific "opportunities", a search like that will tell you where people have decided there's a good place. But your place may be nearly undiscovered, who can say? So do follow your intuitions and personal inclinations in this regard.

India would be my best guess. The energy there is apparently amazing in some places.
A friend of mine has an illness and she visited India recently, and she felt wonderful over there, however as soon as she returned, her illness started up again.
