It is said we live in the Information Age, and, I agree, to some extent.

Thanks to the world wide web, the internet, we, as individuals, have access to any and all information that can be put into digital format.

News, articles, books, pictures, videos, music, etc...... fiction and non-fiction, it can probably be found on the internet.

Sometimes I think some spiritual or alien force had something to do with providing the web. We, as humans, now have a form of collective consciousness, we can all share information with each other, and, within a few seconds.

Many have thought of a way to profit, immensely, Bill Gates on the top, and, there definitely has been quite of few other self made millionaires, creating software and providing the means to share information with the rest of the world.

But, where does providing a service turn from making a profit to greed? As the character in the movie " Wall Street ", Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas, said"

" Greed is good ". Is it? When is it not? Or, is it never NOT? Is it always good?

I compare what has been going on with the world wide web to the invention of electricity, and, how it has become a practical, if not a necessity means for our way of life. Not many cultures living without it. Majority are dependent upon it, for their livelihood.

When it was invented, it started with direct current, by Thomas Edison. Then, Nicola Tesla, came into the picture, with his alternating current form of electricity. This is the form that took hold and powers much of the modern world.

Mr. Tesla didn't stop there. He went from inventing very efficient alternating current, to another form of energy, he really had a hard time putting a name to. He called it radiant energy.

He was even backed by J.P. Morgan, probably one of the richest men in the world at the time. to pursue this new form of energy. Morgan knew Tesla had something there, however, when Morgan thought that maybe there would be no way to meter this new form of energy, that anyone could put up an antenna on their property, and could get this energy from the source, probably for free, he pulled out. Left Tesla on his own.

Tesla, with no money to back his project, was stopped in his tracks. Tesla had a dream of providing energy to the whole world, much like we breath free air. Available to everyone. He feared if this form of energy were not provided, we would pollute the earth with other inferior forms of energy. That is exactly what is happening, has been since the 70's.

Tesla didn't care about the money. His objective was to harness the power of the Universe, and provide to the world, pollution free, cheap, and efficiently, to the world.

Now, how is this a metaphysical subject, you may ask?

Thomas Edison, J. P. Morgan, Nicola Tesla, and there were others, received their dreams or enhanced their talent, from invisible sources.

Tesla was said to receive visions, dreams, on what to develop. He even said in a news interview, he received some kind of signal from outer space, he thought maybe from Mars. The newspapers made fun of him, on that subject.

Could it be, the world wide web, was inspired by someone, who received the idea from some metaphysical, alien, or spiritual force? ( and, don't say Al Gore ), and, if we are not careful, will " pollute " the earth, with it, if not used and made available, properly?

Speculation about aliens and spiritual forces accomplishes nothing. And fear and worry about the future is not an option. So then what's left? Individual action and moral responsibility, that's what.

I'm confused. You spoke about greed, then about a form of energy that can be got from an antenna, then about the inventors receiving inspiration through visions and whether than might be spirit/alien etc. Then asked whether the WWW might have come from a vision. So I'm a little lost about how you are relating all of this together. Could you explain more please.

Too late, that's already happening and has been for years. Believe it or not the porn industry has been the one of the biggest drivers of internet technology, it drove the need for more bandwidth and faster servers because of the graphical content. It also drove e-commerce technology to pay for it. That's not to mention hackers, spammers and scammers that are running rife. And the sheer volume of misinformation that's floating around. Or the down-right weird like the latest craze from Japan that's creating an industry both on the internet and in print by taking pictures of hamsters' bottoms. I think one phrase was "Cuteness to die for." The mentality makes me shudder. That's far from all of it, but the earth is already well and truly 'polluted' and the internet only makes it easier and in greater quantity.

I've never heard any mention of Tim Berners-Lee (the guy that invented the world wide web) ever having been 'divinely inspired' though.

This is another in the long list of great inventions that could have been used for so much good but was used for so much bad. Oppenheimer had the same idea as Tesla when he invented nuclear energy. He wanted to bring cheap, clean and efficient electrical power to the masses but the military used it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. "I am become destroyer of worlds."

My quote: " Could it be, the world wide web, was inspired by someone, who received the idea from some metaphysical, alien, or spiritual force? ( and, don't say Al Gore ), and, if we are not careful, will " pollute " the earth, with it, if not used and made available, properly? "

Quote: World Wireless System " World Wireless system was inventor Nikola Tesla's proposed global system "for the transmission of electrical energy without wires" intended for broadcasting, wireless telecommunications and other purposes. Tesla first broached this idea in a June 1900 Century Illustrated Magazine article titled THE PROBLEM OF INCREASING HUMAN ENERGY[1] although planning began prior to 1899.[2][3] The system was to depend upon the high electrical conductivity of the earth.[4] Tesla, with the initial financial backing of banker J. P. Morgan, started construction in 1901 of the Wardenclyffe Tower, the first part of this system. Wardenclyffe was never completed, bankrupting Tesla and ending his plans for a world system.[5] "

Had this system actually been completed, customers of the service would have been able to receive electricity from an antenna placed on their property. J. P. Morgan pulled out of the project as he predicted he wouldn't be able to meter the usage, thus customers could obtain power for free.

My reference to something alien having something to to with the web, well, to me, the WWW has a more profound effect on mankind, than the invention of electric and nuclear energy.

Two edge sword stuff.

Electric: Ok, yes, we definitely benefited from the invention of it, but, when we use up our natural resources to provide it, is it really worth it, the way we are polluting the environment?

Nuclear energy: Ok, it helps provide cheap electric, but, at what cost to the environment again? They can't get rid of the by product safely. And, not to mention, it may be the end of us all , if a leader of some country, starts setting off nuclear weapons.

WorldWideWeb: yes, it seems great. Information at your fingertips, in seconds. I don't know where this will lead, negatively, time will tell.

I just don't think a human, without help from the unknown, could come up with these inventions. My opinion ,for what it's worth.
