So the sports centre at my university have started doing Ashtanga Yoga sessions every Monday. I am very interested in signing up to do them. However, the thing is I haven't ever done yoga before so I don't know what to expect. I don't want to be struggling whilst everyone in the class isn't.

Does anyone have any advice for a beginner at Yoga?

You could search some online yoga exercises, as well as balancing, stretching, and pranayama (breathing) to do on your own before joining the class. Good luck on your yogini journey :hug3:

Amy, ashtANg yoga can be hard, especially for a beginner, unless the sessions are geared for beginners. I suggest starting with hatha yoga. hatha yoga is generally taught for different levels of ease or difficulty. Good luck and as the yogis like to say - namaste.

Thanks for the advice! The sports centre does do a Hatha Yoga class but it's when I'm in lectures. Anyone know any good sites where I can do a few practice Hatha Yoga poses/methods?

Do a couple online classes first. I started out with YouTube videos. This will at least show you what to expect. I actually prefer online videos because there is unlimited videos and always something new to try. Going to a yoga class once and a while is also good so you can get suggestions in person.

I second the vote for DoYogaWithMe. It's an excellent site, and you can sort video for the specific type you are looking for, like beginner. Also, if you look up Yoga Journal videos you'll find some good ones there as well.
