while it may allow you to dull your physical senses that can distract you from your other perceptions...it will also dull out your mind and your ability to properly reason any experiences you have.
So my opinion is that there are no benefits to it for any spiritual exploration. (Same is true for any drug)

I have been reading a lot of the Seth material and Jane Roberts has a drink while she channels Seth, says it helps the channeling. I think drugs can definitely help spiritually awakenings by letting you see from another perspective but should not be relied upon. I had my best insight on a shroom. Also, pot gives the effect of being in the now and seeing things from another angle.

Rawnrr, do you mean full blown smashed drunk? That will surely drown your senses and make you not comprehend properly and then you end up forgetting everything. Alcohol... can't believe pot is still illegal and alcohol is promoted when it makes such a mess of peoples lives.

no...anything that dulls the perception is of no value to me in spiritual pursuits.
Not that I have anything against alcohol....I am a 40-somthing-ish old man who enjoys a drink....but for spiritual pursuits I dont see any benefit at all.
For me...spiritual development is about increasing awareness, anything that happens during a period of dulled perception/reason is not anything that will bring growth.

It depends on what you drink - I find red wine very spiritual

It depends on the person. I feel like my diet affects my abilities more than alcohol or pot. It also depends on the amount you are consuming and what you are consuming. Wine and certain mixed drinks do not affect me as much as beer does. Pot or shrooms dont really affect me. I'm someone that is naturally wound too tight and pot helps me to get to a relaxed state so I can sort out somethings.
I'd say experiment with what works for you, test out moderations and see what fits for you. While doing this ask for confirmation from your higher self.

Of cause, anything that alters your perception will affect you. To what degree, depends on how much you take of a certain substance.

In order to fully experience and to learn both life and spirituality, you have to be 100% present within yourself and be able to sense through all your sensory functions.
Alcohol hinders you to be fully "be you" and depresses your sensory functions. This means that you will not progress much in life and with spirituality.
Furthermore, you body is your own temple for your own soul.
By damaging your temple by abusing alcohol or any harmful substances, you are destroying your own temple.

I stopped alcohol quite a few years ago but lots of people I know still drink and so I've been watching and wondering about it.
Simply because drink let go it's hold on me many years ago, excuse that silly blaming of a thing outside of me, when I stopped getting angry when I got drunk. So that's step one I reckon. Drinking, and it's affects allows us to be emotive if we aren't being as emotive as we might be.
But I kept drinking but far less so and mostly not to drunkeness and realised I din't actually like it much but still did so and realised it free'd me up somewhat and also knew it was giving me a sort of permission to be childish and free so if I wan't to completely give up the drink all I needed to do was give free reign to the me that wanted to be.
And now I'm the idiot I always was anyways I can see in others how they use drink to relax into just being themselves which is either boring control freaks or childish delinquents and both can be without the need to drink.
Hello
While all things should be done in moderation, I can speak from personal experience that being a Medium that is not one that can just say OK time off, I am an open channel. At times when things are too much for me I will have a glass or two of wine or beer, but nothing more than that. I know far too many that have issues with the drink as it does dull the senses to what they deal with or perceive.
I started down the drink path at 19 and I soon realized it was not doing me any good, that I had abilities that were needed and I needed our of respect for those in Spirit to be of clear mind and body.
It serves nothing to add to abilities as any substance that alters the brain and blood pressure functions its not an asset its a liablility. Many that do not have a handle on what is going on around them sadly turn to escape at times into the drink, though its getting easier now to talk about well "I see dead people", and be understood more.
LOL even by one's devote Catholic Dr. who did caution me on the path of the bottle...so I guess she must have had some similar patients come to her.

Hi there, Keith. I was wondering if you would feel comfortable in sharing what abilities you are referring to?
Looking at the Medicine Wheel four aspects of self, yes, *excessive alcohol affects one's abilities in the
physical - slurred speech, loss of coordination, erectile dysfunction in men, impairs heart and gastrointestinal functions
mental - impairs memory and judgement, affects speech function in the brain, can cause hallucinations
emotional - impairs emotional reasoning and censoring, exaggerates certain emotional responses like sorrow or anger, and disconnects us from our feelings so we don't know what we are feeling
spiritual - cuts off our connection to Higher Power while under the influence, and chronic misuse can take us down dark paths that alienate ourselves from our souls. (But Spirit is always there waiting for us to come home with clean hands and straight eyes.)
*what is excessive? when these symptoms appear. I do consume alcohol in moderation, but I no longer consume excessively to get drunk and avoid and numb pain and fear. Ever since I recovered my spiritual identity and loving acceptance from Creator, I do not need to be drunk anymore! High on life, my friend

Where do you think they got the idea to call strong alcoholic drinks 'spirits' ? . Because when people got really drunk, they would do crazy stuff that made them seem posessed, and indeed, during alcoholic blackouts, who knows what happens ? People are known to do things they have no recollection of , so who was driving the car when that stuff happened? Mood altering substances open up our heads to other areas.
Me, I used to do a lot of drugs and was a bad drunk for a long time. I think I became posessed or occupied by some 4th dimensional nasty when I did some strong drugs as a kid . I wasn't ready , but I got opened up and something jumped in . I drank heavily for a decade after that , and it wasn't at all pretty or nice .
But anyway, my intention was to make this funny by sating something about keeping the beer down below a gallon a day, and a person shouldn't be too bad off. The 'funny' part is, a gallon was my minimum for a long time, so I can't actually offer much firsthand wisdom about drinking any amount more than zero but less than a gallon  . That's funny, right ? :D
I can laugh now because I haven't had a drink or a drug since 1989 .

Hi Keith,
Like Lynn says you can still have a couple of glasses of wine here and there as long as you keep things in moderation.
I can honestly say that some of the worst moments in my life happened because i was drunk.
You get passed that point of no return and you lose all control of your thoughts and actions and then your just a 'sitting duck' for something bad to happen to you and then creating negative Karma for yourself.
As long as you drink in moderation you can still lead a Spiritual path.

Hey, Dar! Yes, I've heard others make this connection between alcohol and "spirits". Very astute!
I love your dark humour - it is one way we keep ourselves sober and not taking ourselves so darn serious! Good job - and congrats for being clean for so long!

Drinking alcohol weakens your spiritual body and makes way for negative energies/spirits to leech off people and around people in their auras etc or closer- spirits can sense a weak soul. It can also lead to mental illness- and mental illness can lead to spirit possession. In my experience, even the most lovely people can be weakened with alcohol.

I find alcohol less menacing than what WORDS have done to others and for abilities, many are impaired prior to any association with alcohol.
"Stupid is as stupid does" ~ Forrest Gump
A newly released study from 2010 suggests that people who don't drink alcohol are more likely to die young than regular drinkers.....
