Why a symbol and not an eye?

I quite often get a tingling throbing feeling in my third eye area and when I close my eyes i see a brilliant white symbol,the same one every time,but from what I have read if your third eye is opened you see an eye when you close your eyes, so why do I see this bright white symbol?

Perhaps the answer is to avoid the spiritual book sellers and trust in experience x

The experience won't be the same for all, as you might know. The white symbol can just as likely be a spiritual being of high order whose presence will become more distinct as you progress. I've never thought of having to see a 'third eye' but know that one moves from varied colour forms to the bright light and to contact with a higher being.
