I used to do a lot of sailing - must do some next year - and would munch on crystallised ginger as the combination of the sugar and the ginger was marvellous for the sea-sickness.

There is the theory about motion sickness that the brain believes there is a poison, and the ginger and the sugar convinces otherwise.

Ginger is very good herbal medicine.
Before Christmas a friend of mine had that nasty stomach flu (norovirus) and kept feeling very nauseous with a very upset stomach. I made him a tea with powdered ginger.

About a quarter to one half a teaspoonful to a small teacup of boiling water. Let stand about 10-15 minutes, then strain out through a coffee-filter. Drink this three times a day.

Well the result was almost immediate. In about 2 hours he said he felt so much better. And the next morning felt well again.

I make fresh ginger and lemon tea when it gets cold. (Ginger boosts the circulation).

Just peel and finely grate some fresh ginger (about 1 teaspoon) into a cup and pour over boiling water. Cover and leave for a few mins. Then add some fresh lemon juice and honey to taste. I don't mind the chewy bits of ginger in the base of the cup - suppose you could strain them out if wanted.
