I wanted to ask this question to see the different answers people would give.

The term spiritual development, what are you developing?

I see nothing spiritual developing in me any longer. I have found some talents and do the best I can with what I have while I can, not taking it for granted that they will stay forever. Maybe there will be more development in my next life, or in a hundred lifetimes for now. Or not.

To me spiritual development is the process by which an individual becomes aware of it's Self, yet when the Self is realized one sees that there is no such thing as a development or process and that these things took place only and also within the dream.

Now that you mention it, I suppose it's a misnomer since the spirit is already perfect, and maybe it's the opposite instead :) "material deconstruction"? :D

Since we are all spirit, spiritual development to me means focusing on the dynamics of our ego - focusing on minimising our ego-centredness and attuning it for more beneficial, harmonious interactions.

Spiritual development to me is learning to perceive and be in the rest of creation beyond what we are told exists. To rediscover the part of ourselves that exists in that space.

Wow - GREAT topic!

Spiritual development - What is one developing?

'Spirit', to me, is the 'fundamental' essence or energy, so spiritual development is the cultivation of the conscious perspective of fundamental essence or energy perception.

Hmmm...

To me, the spiritual perspective is a way of seeing, and, eventually, a way of Being that comes out of that way of seeing. It is a means of perception of and union with more than what is immediately apparent by physical sensing alone, a means of transcending the physical separation that is apparent to physical perception alone.

Better? :D

This post struck me as something I can work with, being clueless when I read the OP...because I do believe we are a spiritual being having a human experience! I guess my answer would be along the lines of our spirit / essence acclimating to life in our earthly bodies, period.

The term spiritual development, what are you developing?

The psyche. More specifically, one's vantagepoint on oneself and the deep issues of life, and one's ability to act on that vantagepoint.

Similar to Eudaimonist.
Development - Act of improving by expanding, enlarging or refining.
Though I prefer to not use the word 'spiritual', or segregate, limit it to this realm, especially since this realm has no universal definition.

Increasing in self knowledge, understanding who and what i am, physical, mental-emotional and spiritual.
They are all interconnected, all parts of a whole.
According to my current perception, some are temporal, some infinite. I choose to gain understanding of all of myself.

Beyond what my eyes can see
To feel
Beyond what heart can feel
To hear
Beyond what my ears can hear
To understand
