"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" was hailed as the great Christian family movie of the year, but when I saw it I was disappointed. I was prepared for the religious symbolism of the book, and was disappointed that it was not present! Aslan was dramatically diminished in his role, and much of the beautiful, positive symbolism had been replaced by violence.
Those are just my personal impressions, however. I'm interested in this thread taking a broad look at anything anyone observed, thought, felt, or pondered about the movie and its religious symbolism.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and I wasn't disappointed in the religious symbolism (or lack of it) - to me it came across very much as when I read the book. I felt it was there for those who wanted to see it, but that the story stood well even without looking at the symbolism. I felt that the book was very similar - the symbolism was there, but not 'in-your-face'.

The film "The Lion ....etc." was a big disappointment to me. The book is a STORY, a FAIRY TALE, not an action/adventure flik which the film made it out to be. The symbolism was quashed and the Personal/Magical elements were mishandled. You've guessed; I did not like it, but then again the books are my all time favourites so i can't expect Disney to live up to that.
