I recycle as much plastic bottles and stuff as I can. This morning, I finished drinking a ready-to-drink protein shake and looked at the bottom to see the recycling icons because I mostly recycle clear or opaque, but this one was white, so anyway it has the usual little roundy triangle and it says "other" underneath the triangle. I googled recycling triangles and this is what it said about the "other">>>

Found in: sunglasses, 3-5 gallon water bottles, signs, DVD/computer cases…anything plastic that’s very rigid
Not safe for foods/beverages: this is the plastic with BPA risk. BPAs are hormone disruptors linked to everything from reproductive issues, immune disorders, obesity, and cancer – even at low doses. BPA leaches from #7 plastic, especially if heated or if exposed to acidic substances (hello coffee cup/baby bottle/orange juice container?)
Not widely recycled, but more programs are starting to accept it
Turned into: plastic lumber, custom products
I couldn't believe they put a drink in one of these types of plastic containers, Gah! So, I put a "review" in on the product at Amazon, so I hope they sit up and take notice!

I think it's important to learn about all these things because so much bad goes on right under our noses, literally!

When in doubt remember this rhyme: ” 4,5, 1 and 2. All the rest are bad for you.”

They shared this little rhyme to help people remember which ones are ok for food/beverages.

The number will be in or near the little triangle.

Yeah it's so weird, i was researching into that when i was delving into purifying my water. Did you know that some water filtration systems have that toxic plastic? Kind of defeats the purpose of drinking purified water!
Thanks for posting this thread, it certainly is a good eye opener.

I've been trying to get into recycling myself lately, being all environmentally friendly and stuff ;) They are making the recycle rules really strict on my block, but since they only allow us to put out one garbage can (new law), the amount of recyclables highly reduces what is in the garbage. Kind of cool that they are forcing us newbies into it with this new law in my town.

Yea, it's pretty cool to collect them all in a plastic bag, trip on down to the recycler stall outside the grocery store and come back with cold hard cash<grin> I mean it's money we paid for the deposit plus maybe a little extra. Can't hurt.
