One of the most powerful forces in creation is the mother archetype, which in recent decades has rapidly grown to become acknowledged by many spiritual seekers as an important and integral aspect of spiritual development. No longer is the voice of the Divine Mother to be stifled and ignored by humanity to the dangerous degree that it has been for many centuries, for this is an era of heightened sensitivity and awareness of the divine feminine for both men and women.

To get a good idea of how far-reaching and expansive this archetype is, imagine, if you will, that the Divine Mother is a like a tree, a magnificent world tree that is rooted to the heart of the planet, with roots and branches that extend into every country, into every city, into each home and into the hearts of each and every person, animal and life-form.

Not only is the Divine Mother rooted in Mother Earth, but throughout the universes, but for the sake of this illustration let us look at how extensive she is in areas of human life on Earth. If you look at motion pictures, for example, there are many depictions of the mother archetype, some very metaphysical and others perhaps less recognizable.

Fairly obvious depictions of characteristics of this archetype may be seen in films such as "Avatar," where respect for the planet and her creatures is a key theme, while other aspects of the mother archetype can be found in films such as "The Matrix," where a wise mother-figure offers compassionate advice and a safe haven.

However, the mother archetype is of course not limited only to those characteristics that may be viewed as wise and nurturing, but also to warrior goddess traits (since the warrior goddess archetype is also an aspect of the mother archetype), as can be seen in films such as "Alien," "The Hunger Games" and "Wonder Woman," which depict heroes that are similar to the Greek deity, Artemis.

The mother archetype, like its counterpart, the father, both exist within men and women, and so, for example, a wise mother or a warrior goddess archetype may be found in one who is genetically male, for the soul contains both anima and animus, inner female and inner male. Both mother and father archetypes are ultimately holy, meaning that holiness is at the heart of both symbols. Divinity is the essence of what makes myth and symbolism come alive.

Meditation, which is a form of surrender, is a gateway to attuning to the Divine Mother within. Symbolically, it is surrendering the active, male aspect of consciousness to the silent and still depths of the soul. Because Divine Mother and Divine Father are one, celebrating one is truly celebrating both in unison.

When the seeker nurtures his or her own body and mind with loving-care, this energy of love positively affects the entire body of creation, for no one is left out of this rippling effect. A prayer: May the celebration of the Holy Mother be enjoyed in each breath you take, in the beating of your heart, in each step you take, and in each dream you have.

Happy Divine Mother's Day to all, each and every day.
